Default Clicking IGT Machines: Harley, Spin Luck, Dragon Dice, etc.

IÂ’ve got a noisy stop reel board on my Harley machine. When the joystick is pushed to start the reels spinning, it makes a fairly loud clicking noise. My Dragon Dice isnÂ’t as loud, but it also makes the same clicking, so maybe itÂ’s a characteristic of the IGT machines??? :-?

Anyhow, was wondering if others with the IGT machines, Spin Luck, DD or Harley, etc. have this noise, and if so, is it loud enough to bother anyone? Is it something a person should be concerned with? Perhaps, it indicates that the board is about to fail?

On my Hanabi after I play and before I play I hear a click sound, but i found it to be the Coin Mech moving from on and off stages.

Yep, I get the coin mechanism noise, too. This noise is a fast 3 or 4 clicks all in about a second of time. My other machines don't do it, just the two IGT machines.

I get some goofy clicking noises on my Lucky Cats (Aristocrat), but it seems that it's doing calculations or something to do with payout. When it happens, exactly.....I haven't paid attention to, since I didn't figure it to be a 'bad' noise.

I hear clicking noises in all of my machines. The clicking noises come from the reel stop board (usually in the upper corner, where the casino interface would plug in.) It sounds to me like it's cycling clicks like coin-in/coin-out counter. Max bet button produces 3 clicks, small reward produces a series of clicks depending on the value. I hear these clicks because all of my machines have the volume brought down to "wife acceptance" levels. All of my machines use the same board in this area, and they all make the clicking noises.

Eric was kind enough to send me a new reel stop board to fix this problem. So, I eagerly headed to the gameroom to fix this thing. Replaced the old noisy board. No improvement. OK, maybe another bad board? I decided if I was going to have a noisy board, IÂ’d rather have it in the Dragon Dice and not the Harley and swapped them out. The much quieter DD board was just as noisy when installed in the Harley machine!

I guess the bottom line is ALL the boards make about the same racket. The DD machine DOES make a loud noise through the speakers when you push the joystick and I think that likely masks the noise of the reel stop board? The Harley is silent when you push the joystick so the racket is quite noticeable. At least to me.

I even attempted putting foam padding around the noisy board in the Harley and that didnÂ’t help much and then worried about overheating problems and removed it.

Bottom line. A none issue. Live with it. I have sensitive ears.

If it really bothers you, slotter, I can give you my address and you can send it along to a houshold that doesn't mind the clicky noises.

This is my personal opinion, or of the voices in my head, and are not meant to reflect the opinion of this board.

Just ran across this thread again. This problem has been FIXED, with logicprobe's expert help.

One tiny cut across a circuit on the board with a razor blade fixed it. The noise was caused by a signal generated that told the Japanese parlor owner the win/loss from the machine. This feature will never, ever be used again on these machines. (But, if you wish to return to original, a small drop of solder can do that, too.)

I had the irritating noise on three of my machines and performed the above vasectomy on all three. I'm happy -- real happy! "REEL happy?" (But, maybe the machines are shooting blanks now?)

Atleast you only gave then a vasectomy and not a full fledged castration!

Slotter, do you have a link to the fix that may offer more details?

There isn't any link, but I did have pics at one time, but must have deleted them. If logic doesn't have the pics, I can take them again.

    Logic???

Here's the cut... it can easily be reversed in the future with a
    jumper between the two pads.
Be sure to apply anesthetic (rum) before the big operation.
This is to disable the relay ticking for the "token played" signal to the control room.

Scrape the green solder-mask over the copper etch. Then, carefully cut a line into the etch at the spot shown in the photo.

If the "payout" ticks get to be too much, cut the same spot on the
next relay over (to the right, looking at the bottom of the board)

Keep in mind, if you ever want to attach an external counter of some sort to this board, you will need to repair the cut. A little jumper wire to bridge the gap, or a drop of solder should do it.

This mod is only necessary if the TICKING noise for token in and token out bothers you, and is shown for this revision of the board.

I just got a Golgo 13 from 7mile slots. When I looked at the reel stop board there was something sliped over one of the bigger black rectangles. it had wires on it and looked like it momitored this thing for something. I don't know if this is related to this. but it was monitoring something on that board.

No need to even scrape the green off. Just a couple of saws back and forth with the razor blade does the trick. Neat clean and it works.

    Hey John,

Where did you come across the necessary technical information to know where to make the cut on the board? Which circuit path, etc? I think it is amazing how folks on this forum come up with such knowledge.

    Best wishes,

I've been communicating with a member regarding this mod. The pictures disappeared when we moved to new software/server. Anyhow, here is a new picture taken of the cut that will stop the clicking noise. It isn't as nice a pic of the one LP put up originally, but it shows where the cut is needed. I took a razor blade, cut this area and then applied a drop of clear nail polish to reseal things. No need to scrape the green off in my experience. Takes only seconds to accomplish!

It seems the pic for this fell into a dark hole...
SO here it is again... by request.

ACK!!! I wish I had known Rob had written to you, too, LP! Both of us went to work for him.

Well, we have lots of pictures now. I do have to admire LP's pic the most though. Mine was kind of sloppily done at the spur of the moment.

Well... THAT would have saved me some time.

30 minutes of my life, actually.

If I only would have known someone else was on that for a noobie... I would have spent my time elsewhere.

NOOBIES... ask ONE person for something... rather than more than one for the same thing!!! Especially if they tell you they will get it to you... Be patient... OK????

    What... there's normal ticking????
    NOT an emergency, folks.

Better yet... post your requests on the FORUM... NOT in PMs.
