Default New cabinet design - my first - check it out

    Greetings!

I've completed my first cabinet. Solid oak (with faced laminated MDF in some of the compartments). Despite my marginally inept woodworking skills, and the fact that I started with VERY rough, uneven boards that I obtained for free, I'm pretty happy with the results.

Attached are an excessive number of pics:

    1) The entire cabinet form the front with the doors closed.
    2) The entire cabinet from the front with the door open.
    3) The top, ball return section, close up with the door closed.
    4) The top, ball return section, close up with the door open.
    5) An interior shot of the inside of the top, showing the hacked-in funnel to direct the balls into the hole (made from a bent vinyl tile siliconed into place).
    6) The bottom, ball collection section, close up with the door closed.
    7) The bottom, ball collection section, close up with the door open, revealing the collection bin which is a drywall compound tub. This door is intended to double as a beverage holder when open so I don't have to run to the fridge during a fever round .
    8) A shot from the side, with the doors open.

You'll notice the 2 cleats to attach this to the wall, so that if I have any problems I can just lift the whole thing off and work on the machine without unbolting anything.

Thanks to all you guys and gals who are fanning the flames of passion for this newfound hobby of mine. I'm really enjoying it. In this case, it gave me a good excuse to spend about a half hour in the garage each night to work on this and escape my otherwise obnoxiously stressful life. In addition, I like this cabinet so much that I simply had to run out today and buy a machine that was worthy of displaying in it (my other vintage is really just too drab). I got a real beauty of a Sankyo for the price, I figure, of the 1000 balls that came with it. He took $50 for everything. It doesn't work, but I'll take care of that (I hope ). It came with this cool rod with a ball attached to each end for adjusting the pins. I have no idea how to use it, but it sure looks handy! Also, an "official" pachinko playfield cleaning tool made from layered bent wood an with a brush (yippee? ).

Hope you guys enjoy the design. I'm looking forward to sharing pics of it on the wall with my new machine working and mounted within.

nice looking unit bu ahve there... i like the lid for the ball hopper.. that will keep things cleaner

this is the best pic i could find..

when u fill the hopper the balls are going to spill everwhere.. to solve this i tryed a few things but this worked the best.. i glued two blocks of wood on each side of the hole in the cabinet.. then make a tube out of a heavy piece of cloth..(i used Denim) cut it so that i goes well into the ball hopper of the pachi.. but no so long that the balls will not empty.. on advantage to having a longer tube is.. it will decrese the weight in the original hopper.. more balls in the cabinet hopper and less weight in the pachinko hopper... no that it would break but u never know ..

Very Nice design you have there
Any chance of posting plans or dimensions? Also interested how it was fastened together.
I use a Kregg tool to drill pockets for screwing everything together on the backside out of view. Very secure way to join wood.

I lidded the top primarily so that I could put a beer up there like a heathen

I was wondering about the spillage. I am prepared to make something similar to what you describe with my favorite tool - Gorilla Tape.

I'll be testing it all out later tonight. I needed a machine worthy of the cabinet so went out and obtained a really nice Sanyo for (practically) free. Had to work on it for hours, but it looks like new. I'm still getting some jamming in very weird places and might need to seek help with that later.

    Thanks dman.
I'd be honored to throw together some plans and post them. I may even have the chicken scratch that I worked from still, but they'll need to be cleaned up to make them coherent.
I so very badly tried to use this as a justification to buy a Kregg, but that's money I could spend on balls and such. I dowelled it, which is a technique I enjoy. I only wish I'd used maple dowels so that they "pop" more.
I'll try and put some plans up tomorrow.

Thanks for sharing. You did a fantastic job so be proud! Adjusting the pins is one way to set the difficulty of play. You bend the pins to adjust the spacing of the pins in order to allow the balls to pass more or less freely. Enjoy the game! UA ..- -. -.-. .-.. . .- .-.. -... . .-. -
