Default Nishijin A Side Tross (side pockets)

I bought this machine last week and wanted to post a couple pictures. Jeff (JACKSJE4) had previously posted some shots of a B machine that he was restoring, this is an A model. Very cool machine to play.

(Restored by Brian in Carson City @ pachinkotuneup; too nice to pass up & I am not this good at restoration)

wow. you've really been on a run of pachinko collecting. how fun.

my goal for the month is to actually move a few to new homes. I am actually going to sell a couple that I fixed up, for Xmas... will miss them, but need more room.

then, there's the one to sigrah (that I hope fedex didn't lose) and one to microbus (dropping it off today).

    I love pachi rescue.

p.s. that side tross is cool. the balls go through there and trip the lower tulips?

Yeah, I have bought 8 machines in the last couple weeks. I thought I was done buying, then went on a run. I hope to stay "on the wagon" for a while.

You need to get the center jackpot to open one side pocket (alternates L & R side pockets for successive center hits). The center jackpot opens the single tulip on the machine at the same time. The side pockets also open the tulip if you have closed it before hitting a side. Pretty cool machine and it looks brand new. Brian does impressive work (I do not have that kind of patience or talent).

How are your latest machines coming? Is Salinas full yet?

put a video up on that side tross. sounds interesting.

today I am finally going to spend some quality pachi time. I am in salinas, recovered from a couple night shifts, and heading into the garage.

once I get the new shelves up, I should have a display of 16 machines.

then, I need to clean about half of them and get them loaded with balls.

hopefully I will have some pix to post later today.

I am lucky enough to have two "side tross" pachi's.
One machine is a souvenir from mudfud's vacation , and I picked up the other for a whopping $12.50 .

I'm going to try and do a complete "Vintage Pachinko/Microbus" on one of them, while using the other for a reference and spare parts if need be.
I've dabblled in removing parts here and there, but I havent actaully broke a machine down completely yet. This is going to be scary.

I plan on using new pins. I'm going to invest in a slide hammer to remove the old ones. And i'm thinking about looking into a pachinko hammer set. I've seen them on ebay before, and I remember that they have a few different tools for bending pins.

Honestly, I think that will be my biggest problem is getting the 6 degree bend on all the nails. I think this needs to be done with a tool of some sort, just for consistency. If anyone as any solutions, please let me know!

Very nice, sounds like a great project. I like this machine, but my top jackpot is a little stingy. I tend to bend nails on my machines to my favor (more than 6 degrees) for more payouts since I like to win. I have a monkey/alligator A machine that pays like crazy.

You will need to post pictures throughout the process...

Eddie has a model 'A' Side Tross machine too. It's funny that you can get a machine with the same ornaments and theme in both a model 'A' and a model 'B'.

It's a fun machine. You will enjoy playing it.

I agree. I wonder if there are any themes that went through A, B and C. I know there is No More War-2 (B model) and -3 (C model?). Was there an original No More War in an A machine?

The alligator & monkey may be one - I have an A model and believe that I have seen both B and C versions.

It is a generic transformer that converts 110vac to 9vdc. Radio Shack will have them. Just tell them that you want to power a 9v bulb.

anything around 9 volts DC output is fine. actually 10 v AC is what the parlors used. the bulbs won't care.

radio shack has them, or you might see if you have a spare one lying around. anything from 6 volts to 10 volts would be fine. answering machines, rechargeable vacuums, some radios would be in the right range.

surplus stores usually have them for under $5.

I just checked radio shack, and there's are kinda pricey, like almost $20 for the 9 volt

    there's this one

    6V/1800mA AC-to-DC Power Adapter - RadioShack.com

6 v 1800 mA will probably give you more like 10 volts without any load. it's only $3

(the voltage will drop on an unregulated adapter as more current comes out of it, so adapters always say X volts at Y amps. if you measure the voltage with no load, it will be much higher. not critical for light bulbs, but I used an adapter years ago that was the correct volts and way too high amps and blew out a walkman. that's why you have to be close on both numbers for electronics.)

    A word of warning!

DO NOT leave that machine in the sun and in an unheated garage near the ocean.

Otherwise it will look like this.

It does not look all that bad - but it can be hard to tell from a picture. Looks like it can be cleaned up, though.

Mine looks better than when it was new - the guy that I bought it from does amazing work.

Mine was identical to yours once and will never be as bright again.

    Yours looks great BTW!

Mine has light rust all over front and back. The spring for the shooter stretched once and never again. All of it can be fixed as I have a great rust remover and have found a way to replate the frame where needed.

However nothing will restore the colours of the cell short of a replacement.

The Side-Tross pockets will most likely end up on another machine. Maybe the single shot I revieved with the deal to get this one and a Nishijin B Crab and Monkey. The single shot is like the one in my avatar and album and the C&M is like the center image, frame and lights wise.
