Are you perhaps talking about the 'jumper'??

This is used to enter the set-up mode to customise the settings

Did you not get any instructions with your Dongle??

the little black piece is to use as a jumper if you want to change from one mode to another.

there should be a little diagram that shows where to store it when not using it as a jumper.

I used the jumper to change mine to the simple count upward every time I dispense 20 balls.

the dongle's a great thing, btw.
