1/4th to 1/2, depends on the parlor

loan of balls is 4 to 5 yen a ball, trade in value is always less than that.

thats how palour make their profits

You asked for the rate per yen, I answered your question

Now the answer to this question is:

    25 per 100Yen

Some parlors are better, 50 per 100

    *sighes*

    First suggestion:
Don't play here if you ever, ever think you going in to win money.

You decide how much you're willing to spend (note: SPEND, not lose...) and have a good time.

Second, as mentioned above balls are loaned out at 1 ball per 4 yen at most places. There are some which offer half-price play (1 ball for 2 yen) and others still who offer 1 ball for 1 yen. Typically you put in 1000 yen bills and you'll get X number of balls depending on which palour type you choose.

    End of post.

    -----

@luckydog: I have never even heard of 5-yen pachi... perhaps you're thinking of 5-yen slots?

    What?

    ...Better how?

They're usually defined as worse as very few 2 and 1 yen palours give you back the same amount you put in (which is to say that they skim off the turn-in prizes).

Quick example of typical palours (NOTE THAT THIS IS TURN-IN VALUE, NOT RENTING VALUES! DO NOT CONFUSE WITH ABOVE POST. ):

4-yen: 250 balls will get you a prize worth 1000 yen

2-yen: 667 balls will get you a prize worth 1000 yen (should be 500)

1-yen: 1334 balls will get you a prize worth 1000 yen (again, should be 1000)

(Some palours are even worse with 834 and 1667 turn in values for 2 and 1 yen pachi respectively!)

So let's say you spend 1000 yen in a typical 2-yen pachi palour and win a small jackpot machine on your last few balls. In fact, you win 3 times with each fever paying out ~400 balls. You now have a bucket of balls and turn it in for a final count of 1267 balls. (For reference, my highest record in 2-yen pachi was just over 13,000 from Eva 5, but that is rare.)

Congratulations! You win one 1000 yen prize and must waste the remaining 600 balls worth of credit on cheap snacks / drinks / hair gel.

Welcome to cheap pachi. You play for the entertainment, not for the monies.

Now... that having been said, there -are- 1 to 1 cheap palours which I love. The pins tend to be on the tight side, but if you hit it big, you actual get your monies worth.

    (Gosh-darned editing limit.)

Also wanted to note that some 4-yen palours also skim off the top! Stay away from those.

I thought in all parlors that the redemption amount was always less than the rental amount. Ya learn something every day!

Honestly, if you're just interested in trying it?

-Any- 1-yen palour will do. You'll often find 1-yen spaces inside normal 4-yen palours. So just look around for the giant 1-yen banners and you'll find one soon enough.

if you're in a built up area (Tokyo, Osaka city) and enter a large parlour, don't forget your earplugs, and mask (unless you are a heavy smoker, deaf or a rock musician)...

...I'm not joking... it seems to be worse than it was 15 years ago.
There is always another machine around the corner...

    Earplugs, yes.

    Masks, no longer necessary.

You'll find a plethora of no smoking floors now and many also happen to be the same floor on which 1-yen pachi is played.

Yeah, I played at a bunch of 1-yen pachi places both in Tokyo and Hiroshima and noise was a much bigger issue than smoke - actually I don't even remember seeing anyone smoking in the parlors (too busy focusing on the games!).
