Don't tell me Hollywood are going to destroy another animation. Their plotting hard to ruin Akira to make it appeal to the US market. Don't they get it. it's popular because it's different and not the same old drivel over and over again.

L1 is a pound, right? What would that be converted to dollars? I know I could look it up---but this gives me another post!!!

Looking at today's exchange rate, it is showing as $1-63 to the £1, so Ellie's £35-13 would be worth just over $57

Not bad for a couple of hours work

Guess I'll just have to go to England (wife wants to anyway) and beat Ellie to the beach. Am jealous. Any idea Angie why so much money was lost?

Start of the good weather, means people get careless with clothing, belongings etc etc

Not sure if it's the same in the US, but over here it is normal for people to go the beach for the whole day, families will get there early to pick a nice spot on the beach as their own bit of territory for the day, they will usually put up deckchairs, and maybe little UV tents or sunshades and use that area as a base for the day at the beach.

So as you can imagine they do tend to accidentally leave things behind, we have found 2 mobile phones (both now reunited with their owners), buckets, spades, inflatables, footballs, toy cars, flasks, cutlery, and of course money that has slipped from pockets and being heavy it just sinks into the sand as soon as it is lost.

So we tend to find recently lost modern spendable money in good condition in the warmer months, and old tarnished and / worn money in the winter months, after it has spent months, years or decades on the beach or at sea

The Oregon coast is not as warm as California's. People tend to keep their clothes on & walk the beach where we go. Oh what a sheltered life I lead!

We just returned from the upper California coast, at the Oregon state line. Had been quite awhile since my first (fruitless) detecting there so took the detector along. Wishful thinking--only found melted blobs of aluminum from drink cans thrown into fires. Seem to be only beach walkers there. Did spot a dime in a parking lot though! Who needs a detector anyway?!

Went detecting yesterday (8-18-11) in a local park. Found a quarter, two nickels, and five pennies in about an hour. Sure not going to offset the cost of living at this rate!
BTW am I the only one that wants to keep this thread active?
