    Thumbs up New PowerFlash

Well, I wanted to say hello to everyone. I'm new to Pachinko. My dad has had one since I was a teen and I remember it always being a good time, but never new much about it. Anyway, I had a birthday a few weeks ago and he showed up with this machine he got from the flea market for $5. After doing several hours of research, I think I have a Nishijin PowerFlash Flush? It's got 9 tulips and the "king, queen, jack" theme. All the mechanical stuff seems to work, but the electronics are not working "yet". If anyone has a collection of info about this machine, I would greatly appreciate anything. (seems that information is somewhat rare?) I'll take some pics as soon as I get home and try and get 'em loaded up soon. I look forward to the good times this machine is sure to give to the family in the future.

Congrats on getting one of the most sought after machines. If you do a search on here for Power Flash (PF) you will come up with tons of good info and many people willing to help.
There are at least two versions of the PF. One has a thunderbird or phoenix looking center jackpot and the other has a pivoting "chinaman" for it's jackpot. Both are very similar in play but the t-bird version has a few more options in which tulips open depending on where the balls go. Since you mentioned yours has 9 tulips then you have the t-bird model which IMO is a little more fun to play. In any case both are great fun to play, hard to find, unique, and as I said before eagerly wanted by collectors.
They are a bit more complicated in their mechanics as compared to most other machines of that era because they need a power source (transformer) to power the solenoids which in turn open and close the tulips. But the solenoids and transformers are easy to find and cheap if you need either. So first you should determine if you have a power source already wired in in which case all you need to do is plug it in, load it up with balls, and make sure everyting works. Feel free to ask all the questions you want.

    Such a deal!

There are a couple (hundred!) posts here about the powerflash, and one extensive one about the electronics.

But, first, You must take pictures of your machine, and show us what you're working on.

You've got a team of experts here...

Wow! Thanks for the quick and informative responses. I've spent the last hour working out the electronics and wiring up a couple of lights behind the red "wing" holes. It did have a 24v transformer that is working great, but I had to rewire the entire juction box (it was a mess...the guy who had it must have never seen it work.) I will take pics this weekend and post on Monday! Thanks again for the great welcome!

when you rewire the J box, be sure to keep the 4 diode bridge in there, so the solenoids will see DC voltage, not AC (don't think they'll work AC)

I put LEDs behind the red wings, too, and hooked another bulb up behind the queen (or king, whichever didn't light up with jackpot). gives a 4 light jackpot.

    cant wait to see pix!

Yes. All flippers work as they should and I wired up 23v lights throughout. It's been fun.

I'm not addicted to Pachinkos. I can quit at any time. Did I tell you about the three machines that I have on the way?

Loooks to be in. Great shape and the playfield hasn't completely faded to green. Very nice indeed. Also, it has a lighted toggle power switch like mine and at least one other person's on this forum. It probably originally came from Pachinko Palace.
