Default Lumina frame: about the bulbs

As many questions as I have about this new rag of a machine I purchased you would think I'm a total noob.

I have a few bulbs out on the frame. I saw that someone had a thread about replacement bulbs for the Lumina. My question is: How do you get the bulb out of the little screw on holder? AND how do you get the colored condoms off of the light without cutting them?

I just twisted one in the holder and it broke the wires off!

I have another older Sankyo pachinko, a pinball machine and 2 arcade games and I have never had so much trouble with something before in my life.

Removing the bulbs is fiddly and a pain. I use a needle to lift the copper prong then push out the copper holder. This releases the bulb.

I think New In Town has some replacement bulbs for sale on the auction site.

As for the rubber johnny's just be careful and try and push them off with your finger nail.

Removing the copper prongs is the only way to get the bulb out and put a new one in that I know of...it's what I had to do. Also, I haven't tried it yet, but softening up the condoms in warm water may make them slide off the old bulb better.

New in town mentioned that a little WD40 works great to remove the rubber coverings. I tried to do one gently without using anything before this advice and I ripped it.

I have a few of the color and clear bulbs available if anyone needs them. I will let the clear ones go for $3.00ea or $2.00ea w/exchange and the color bulbs $4.00ea or $3.00ea w/exchange.

I will list them in the auction if there is any interest.

    I'm still not understanding this.

To remove an old bulb...do I just get a needle and pull up on the 2 copper wires that are barely showing in the bottom of the base? When those 2 are straightened I can then pull the bulb (and the 2 wires) out of the top of the base?

If this is the case...it seems like removing them will be a cake walk compared to installing a new bulb in the base. It looks like the wires on the replacement bulbs are about 2" long...do you just push the 2 wires through the holes...snip them off a little and tuck them into the bottom copper connections where the original wires were at?

Or do the 2 copper connectors that are built into the base need to be removed? If these 2 connectors need to be removed from the base...how?

PS: Anyone know where to buy replacement blue and red condoms?

The prongs that I referred to are what touches on the frame to make the contact to power the bulb. You will find these are horizontal against the base. Use the needle to get under the prong and lift it so it is vertical. Now you will be able to push out the part that holds the bulb.

When you replace the bulb the wires will have to be trimmed to the same length as the bulb you just removed.

(With holder facing up) So you pry UP the little connection piece...then you pop DOWN the whole metal piece out of the plastic holder? I won't break the connection piece off?

there is a small tab on the top. This needs to be bent up. then the copper can be pushed down through the black plastic body. re-install the oposite way, and bend tab back to lock position.

A picture is worth a lot of words...maybe not 1000, but enough. Thanks!

    Bulbs are on the way.

As to the red and blue caps for the bulbs, I have tried Gloss color spray paint on the bulbs. Two light coats. Don't paint the wires.

Has worked out well to date.

Thanks. I have all of my color condoms...but a couple of them are ripped (thanks to me). To be honest I can't even notice that the blue ones do anything. The light just seems to go through them like they are regular white bulbs. I have moved the burnt out bulbs (4 of them) that were scattered around my frame to the 4 locations in the speaker areas. At least until I get my replacements...my frame will look symmetrical.

You might also try Tamiya's clear acrylic colors...I was always super impressed by them..but never tried them on a light bulb!!
