REEL #3 Wont LITE UP!

My Aristocrat Type A Pachislo slot machine wont light up reel #3 (Backlights). Everything works great except for this. I have checked all connectors and obvious stuff. this machine is the Baseball theme model, with a 4th bonus reel. Any IDEAS? I think there is a bank of lights behind the reel, and none of them work on #3 only.

By checking all obvious stuff, did you also happen to check to see if the reel light bulbs were burnt out? If so, they are easy to replace.

how many engineers does it take to change a light bulb? my wife checked them out, swapped with another reel, still bad. next idea.

unplug and replug any wires going to the reels, it sounds like a poor connection

It has to be a bad connection or broken wire or maybe a pin pushed out of the connector.

I have checked all the connectors and they do seem to be ok. I had another machine, none of the lights worked behind the reels, I replaced the entire reel assy and got lights. I'm thinking it must be some small part burned out, seems ridiculous to replace a major part every time . This machine has LED's soldered into a circuit board.

Not sure if this may help, but other than switching a light bulb, is it possible to switch the wires? That may eliminate a broken wire.

Switch the wires on reel 2 & 3 to see if the trouble follows the wire or stays with the reel.

Wow! Another Baseball Boy!

I am having a similar problem with reel #2. It doesnt light up when you get three in a row.

I started to remove the reels, but i thought that I had better check here first before i f'd something up.

How did you get to the bank of light bulbs? Did you have to remove ALL the reels?

Reel removal instructions complete with images (let's you access the bulbs) is in the research center. You can remove one at a time.

OK, upon further investigation, I stand corrected. This Aristocrat machine does use removable light bulbs in small twist in sockets. Holding them up to a light to check the filament doesnt necessarily guarentee they are good. I hooked them up to 6vdc and found all 6 to be bad in reel #3. I also found 3 to be bad in reel #1, & #2. NOW, the big question is...where do you get replacements. They have 2 wires coming out of them which goes into the socket, then bent over to make contact. I need about two dozen. ( I have another machine, Street Fighter II, which also seems dimly lit)

Upon further investigation, the correct bulbs for the REEL ASSY on Aristocrat/Sammy/Rodeo machines are T5 Bulbs, avail @ Stealth Home Amusement @ a womping $5 ea. Ouchiewowwa. Anybody know any discount places. Also 5Star sells untested USED bulbs for $1.98 ea, no returns. Where are the good deals hidding?

I took a look at FTK's description for the reel bulbs.
It reads "These are T-5 12v bulb w/ socket."

I was hesitant to buy them at first, because I KNEW my machine was 24v...

Anyways, I started switching bulbs here and there on the machine, and still had problems.
I disassembled the reel, and was checking the circuit board. I discovered that there are two 12v bulbs, wired in series.
When one bulb goes, they neither one will turn on (think old christmas tree lights)

So, get a ohms meter and actually check each bulb before replacing it. One bulb will be bad, the other will still be good.

You learn something new every day...

if you have a varible power supply, you can actually test each bulb to see if it really lites up.
