That antique coin-op pachinko is extremely cool. How hard is it to bid on Yahoo Japan? Is it best to go through a broker?

you will need a broker, most yahoo japan sellers don't ship out of japan.

the broker will bid, accept the package, repackage and resend it to you.

Can anyone recommend a broker? I'd like to look into bidding on it.

Well, a 1930s pre-war pachinko is a serious collector's item in Japan. There must be only a handful. It went for $2,572—a lot more than I had bid. The opening bid was $10, which mislead me (plus I used to competing again American buyers, who don't hold the same value for old pachinkos)

I wish I could have afforded that much. It would have really capped my collection. Of course I would have had to keep it in a glass case with an alarm!

As Compirate mentioned in another post, last minute bids extend the auction, so this one kept showing 10 mins left for the longest time. Very different from eBay, with sniping. But, if you think about it, it's exactly like a regular floor auction, where everyone bids to the maximum they can afford, and the winner is the one willing to spend the most.

I wrote a bit about early pachinko development on this post: First pachinko machine? (mostly cribbed from Winning Pachinko) for those curious about why this machine is worth so much.
