    Post old Nishijin pachinko

This one looks to be in a sorry state, but I'm posting it as it's not described as a pachinko and so may go under radar...

Also described as coin op?? but I can't see that it is?? but then again it is also says its 1950's and it's not that either...

But it does have something interesting looking in the centre...

It looks very similar to the one I am restoring for Sharmoni right now. I think I will bid on this one.

    Thanks for pointing it out!!

Looks like it will need some TLC and restoration, but hopefully that will scare others (non PT members )

Yes, I managed to resist the temptation to add another old classic to my collection. Enjoy! I'm sure it's in good hands, especially seeing how well you're restoring my old rustbucket Nishijin.

I always love coming home after a long day to find a large package from UPS left on my doorstep!

The most recent acquisition to my pachi family finally arrived. I had made arrangements with the seller to have it professionally packaged, so it arrived without any shipping damage - well worth the $26 in packing charges I paid!!

Overall I think the machine is in good condition for its age. Very little rust, no cell stains, and all of the parts and pieces seem to be present and accounted for. In my estimation it appears to have been manufactured several years earlier than the Kobuki machine I am restoring for Sharmoni. I base this on the overall machine design, more simplistic ball path and mechanics, and more "plain" appointments installed on the front (less plastic and less ornate features). I would appreciate any feedback from the members of the forum regarding the age so that I can get a better idea of when the machine was actually placed into service. My guess is late 40's or early 50s.

As I mentioned, the cell has no stains and all components on the face are in good condition and complete. Somewhere along the way someone applied silver leaf paint to the win pockets and center feature, but I can tell that it wasn’t done recently. I think it was done to make the machine look newer for a sale, as opposed to a step towards restoration. Unfortunately, there are few small specks of the silver leaf paint splattered on the cell, but I think they can be removed with a little careful effort. The win pockets also have some pitting associated with rust, but the silver leaf paint was used to cover it up and most likely protected them from further decay.

Within the photos I posted is a close up of the center feature. I'm hoping that Compirate or someone else can translate the symbols for me. I would really like to know the name or theme of this machine and if there is a story behind it. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a little tinkering to do before I can run some balls through and play it for the first time, but I think I can get it to work later today. I will start a new thread when I begin the restoration process, but not for a while yet. I need to finish Sharmoni’s machine first and make room on my workbench.

I like that one Jeff, it's certainly a little different to the usual ones we see

Good to know it was packed properly and arrived safely too

Really looks and sounds like a super purchase, and I'm sure you will make us all even more jealous as the restoration gets under way

Is there some kind of trap door below the center part?

That writing in the middle may be Chinese?

Good eye, Compirate! I had not yet explored that area before you mentioned it.

It is indeed a trap door that is opened when a ball falls through the win pocket on the very top. As the ball comes down the plastic guide on the back that you see in the picture, it triggers a lever that flips the trap door open. When a ball enters the trap door, it closes it back up until another ball enters the top win pocket.

It works very much in the same fashion that a tulip does on the later models.

The thin metal rod that serves as the hinge for the trap door is missing, so it doesn’t work at the moment, but I’m sure I can find a suitable replacement if the original piece is not found somewhere within the machine.

That's awesome. It's like the prototype tulip! I can't wait to see it.

BTW, the Japanese used Chinese writing characters (Kanji) before they developed their own writing characters, Hiragana and Katakana.
