    Default Previously Unknown Key Use.

I was talking a close look at how my single shot nishijin, when i realized that the key actually serves a couple of different functions.

Sure, we all know that when you turn it to the RIGHT, it unlocks the glass... but there is also a mechanism that will reset the jackpot see-saw incase it gets stuck.

When this happens on my machine, the center jackpot light will stay on when the seesaw is in the down position. This happens randomly when you get too many winning balls. Turning the key to the LEFT will reset the seesaw, and the locked balls will release the see shell on the right corner... Where they will have to be unstuck using the white button on the front of the machine.

Sure this sounds a little complicated, but this is a Model A. My B doesnt seem to work that way.

I started looking at the key mechanisms when i discovered that my pachilso reset when i turned the key to the left.

PS Actually, the "KEY" that i am using is actually a long thin bobby pin like screwdriver,

What a cool find! I will need to check my A series machines to see if they have this same feature (I haven't restored them yet, but am starting on one next weekend).

Thanks for sharing that insight with us!!

You wrote that the key opens the glass but just to set the record straight, it actually opens the front of the case. That seems to be true for most of the vintage machines (my Kyoraku actually has a lock for each). Modern pachinkos have keys that turn left to open the glass and right to open the case.

My Nishijin A has a hole through the center of the lock so that a paperclip pushed through the hole pushes on a little hinged metal plate which moves a wire lever to reset the see-saw. Very clever mechanism—part of what I love most about vintage pachinkos.

The difference with mine is probably because of the design of the extra ball storage. Mine has an overflow channel so that keeping too many balls in it will just cause new additions to recyle back to the shooter (without paying a jackpot!). The white lever between the ball feed hole and the lock lifts the extra jackpot balls back up to just in front of the see-saw so they can be dropped into the jackpot channel.

WOW! Thanks for setting the record straight on that one!

Now, can anyone tell me how to make my own working key, or even how to successfully remove the tumblers from the lock?

    :Thanks:
