Default Ohh Masters, please teach me

Because I'm soo new to the (Yup I'm a noob) Pachinko world, I have to ask 2 questions about the little round metal things inside these machines:

    1. Is there a reason they are called "spheres" instead of "balls" on the forumns? Is this because like most men the 5th grade humor comes right to mind?
    2. Do all true pachinko balls have etching on them (parlor symbol or description)? Was told by a seller on Ebay this was not the case, just want to make sure I'm not buying bearings.

better safe then sorry... get the ones that are marked that way u know there the right size

i have been sorting threw my errrrrr ummmmmmmmm balls ok ok spheres and i have 20 or 30 that are not etched by the parlors... they appear to be the right size but i have not bothered to weigh them... i doubt ill bother.. i think they look funny,, its amazing to say when your looking a tray full the ones not marked look smaller to me

    just my 2 cents

mine all translate to: "objects in this mirror appear larger than they actually are" that explains why the unmarked ones appear smaller.

I have a bunch of unmarked ones - they work fine. I seem to recall vendors saying they are "uncirculated" ones before. Don't know if I buy that or not, but they have no problems and I never take the time to look at em anyway.

I am more picky about pachislo tokens however!

I wonder if the etchings are like chips in vegas.. Yano? Imperial Palace has different looking chips from Ceasers, or MGM Grand.. So I wonder if the etchings are a way to distinguish balls. er I mean spheres, from other parlors.. But I think it would be awful difficult to see the itty bitty etchs.. I dont know, just a thought..

I have one that someone tell me that means "something that rarely we can see" An other friend said to me about the same ball that was "lucky". I Think Katakana lettering can be interpreted by different ways, but i just "think". I'm not sure about it
