Question Plastic Smoke Damage on Road Construction

I just picked up a Road Construction by Sankyo and looking for advise or a way to clean the smoke damage on the plastic of the Sankyo frame. It may be hard to tell from the photo, but anything white looks like real stained from the smoke. I tried different scrubbing brushes and solutions with no luck
It appears to be "in" the plastic around the case!
I may have to live with it, but I have to ask you the experts for advise!

Windex works just about the best on smoke tar.

    Then use Novus 2

finally polish with Brillianeze and boom New looking Pachi.

Would cleaning the outside be good enough? Is this a complete disassemble? If so, how hard is it to remove the plastic?

    Thanks Eddie!

I actually think that is more sun yellowing from direct sunlight or florescent lighting exposure. I have the same issue with my Magical Carpet. It's common...

I consider the discoloring as part of the history, and character of the machine. If it really bothers you, tear it down and spray it with white Krylon Fusion.

Having not seen one not like that, I wonder if it's supposed to be 'smokey' ?

I've never seen cigarette smoke get Imbeded into plastic. If that brown color is cig smoke. I've always been able to just wash it off with soapy water. I have that same frame, Ive never tried it, but does the clear plastic seperate from the whit insert? it could be smoke stain betrween the two layers.

Wow, it seems a lot of us have a very similar situation! I can live with it, but it just looks bad compared to my other games.
I haven't look into taking off the plastic shell, but I would imagine that you can't remove it.
I even went out and bought a sonic scrubber hoping that would help...No luck!

I tore mine completely apart and cleaned the clear plastic both inside and out to no avail. even tried rubbing compound. when it gets down here from the great white north i will be knocking it down again and dropping the clear parts off for chroming.

I truly believe that this may be a losing battle! I do like your chroming idea, I would love to see how that turns out Have you done something like that before?

after reading these posts,i do not know if anything would work.when i saw that even rubbing compound failed,i was suprised.maybe painting those parts would be the only way,but if you go that route, maybe if you wet sanded the discolored parts first with a very fine grit like 1000 or 1200.if you sand it and the color brightens up,you could then rub those sand scratches out with compound.i have done this on plastic before and it has worked for me,but i recommend doing it as a last resort only if you were considering painting those parts anyway.if you were to paint, the sand scratches would aid adhesion of the paint to the plastic.keep in mind this trick only works if the plastic is molded in that color all the way through.if the factory painted the parts, you may sand through into another color.

how about dipping the parts in high gloss paint for a really smooth finish??

ford did that with the model t's they dipped the whole frame and all body pieces

ford's motto then was "any color as long as its black"

Henry Ford is commonly reputed to have made the statement "Any customer can have a car painted any color that he wants so long as it is black." Actually, Model Ts in different colors were produced from 1908 to 1914, and then again from 1926 to 1927. It is often stated that Ford chose black because the paint dried faster than other colored paints available at the time, and a faster drying paint would allow him to build cars faster since he would not have to wait as long for the paint to dry.

The guy down the street owns the first ford sold in town, a
RED 1909 model T that has been kept in amazing shape. I think it is still in the original family too.

Have you tryed toothpaste ( not the gel type) it does a great job on the early plastic car headlights here in the U.S. you could try this

Miracle Polishing And Cleaning Cloth . The original Miracle Cloth which has proven to out clean and polish any other product.
When things don't go right the 1st time , Step back ,Take a break and come back renewed. RGS

I just did with no luck. It is definitely UV fading that is causing this. I pulled the small piece off of the bottom of the door, and you can clearly see the bright white it once was.

If you care, and really feel like pulling your machine apart, you can paint the parts back white, and then put them back under the clear. Alternatively, you can also paint them any color you want. I can post pics of what I have apart if anyone is interested.

Also, the 4 small semi-transparent areas on each side of the door are clear with a white sticker under them. You can use the reverse side of the sticker which is white again if you would like, but you will need to change sides to make them fit (use left side on the right side, and right on the left side).

Yes, please post a couple of pictures and any pointers on removing the plastic! I haven't had time yet to look at the removal so you would be saving me a ton of time.
