Default Bidding against each other on E-bay

I have been here a very short time, but I feel that I have gotten to know some of you. This board is extremely friendly, and I've been impressed with the overall attitude of the members.

I.e. Why pay for manuals on ebay, when there are a dozen people right here on this site who are more than willing to help you figure something out for free?

So, it occurs to me that there are a bunch of us here who have bought machines on ebay...and continue to do so. I'm wondering if I have gotten into a bidding war with one of you in the past...thus driving the price up for the eventual winner...you or me.

I'm not sure if this would be considered unethical, so I put it out to the lot of you for your thoughts and consideration.

If one of us REALLY wanted a particular machine on ebay, would there be a problem by just posting a such a statement of fact on this board? I mean, let's say there was a machine that I was going to bid on, but wasn't really passionate about. Then, Heavyguitarman makes a post that the same machine that I was going to bid on was something that he had been trying to find for a year. I'd be inclined to let it go without running up his eventual buy price.

Is that wrong? I suppose that it defies the spirit of the auction process, but I just hate to see us costing each other money.

If I'm out in left field, let me know. I suppose it goes both ways...if I were trying to sell something, I wouldn't want there to be someone out there keeping the price down.

Anyway, I look forward to the comments.

if you really want it put your bid in.

in the past I have not bid on items other members were biddding on. but, if I really wanted it I would put my bid in anyways.

and I have been outbid by other members-- but I don't hold any gruges

That occurs here at times on PachiTalk.

I'm sending of some Golden Spheres and a couple of goodies tomorrow to a member.

We are ALL here to enjoy our World, Help each other out with questions and answers and solving problems.

I'm sure that if anyone was looking for a manual, Bulb, Sphere or any other thing in particular if they SPEAK up and let it be known, a member who could help would jump right in to help out.

Yes, pretty much exactly as Luckydog says.

Sometimes a member will express his interest in something on ebay and it will get a nice thread going. Sometimes, a really rare machine comes up that would be of interest to many of the hobbyists here. As a community, in general, we abide by the all's fair in bidding unwritten policy.

Of course whether you mention your ebay find or not is up to you, but be prepared for others to be interested. Some people have kept their finds to themselves, and introduced us to their acquisition after the bidding has ended.

I think it was a good e-bay deal if I get the machine for less then the shipping cost.

I'm currently watching a machine on Ebay that is located less than 15 miles from my house...currently at $26...I'm not willing to pay much more that...we'll see. Not having to pay shipping is crucial here.

almost everywhere I go stores are laying off help or cutting their hours to stay in the black.

the post office is laying off a lot of people soon and the christmas mailing rush will soon be happening. they usually hire extra help during the season.

I'm sure Fedex and UPs is feeling the crunch too.

one ambulance company here is adding a $25.00 fuel charge to the bills.

I don't think black friday will be as big a deal this year with the people off work and cash shortages.

Oh... QVC can sink as far as I'm concerned.

Since my Mother (81 yrs old) fell a couple of weeks ago, I've had to take over ALL of her finances (even the ones she's managed to 'hide' from me in the past)... and can confirm what I've suspected to be a targeting of the elderly by QVC.

The woman is on basic Social Security, subsidized housing, lives month to month, has bouts with Alzheimer's, etc... and yet, QVC recently gave her an increase to a $5000.00 line of credit... WITH A 23% APR!!!

Why would a company do that?
    I mean, other than greed???

I've enjoyed watching QVC, tv coin and knife shows too.

most items are way overpriced, but I did get a few good deals

I do have too many knives and swords now, with a lot that I regret buying!!!
