Question Gamera High Grade Vision Display

I moved my Gamera High Grade Vision across the room and lost the display. Machine still plays and has all the audio but no display. I tried the reset but that didn't help. The first time it went out, I got it back using the reset but that no longer works. When I power it up, the display appears to be lighting but then it goes back. I tried all of the connections but no luck.

Any suggestions? Could it be a board and which one is it?

    Thanks,

    Ed

You can check a few things...go ahead and reseat ALL connections in the game, not just the ones with the monitor. Also, make sure they look clean.

another check...make sure that the door isn't "pinching" any wires that go from the back side of the door to the cabinet.

Lastly, move it back to where it was and try it. Maybe it's experiencing some sort of interference in it's new location.

    Hope that helps.

I thought there were some issues with Gamera HG displays. Can anyone confirm the problem / solution?

    See this thread.

That is the Gamera High Grade Vision. There seems to be a high failure rate with the LCD on this one so be careful who you buy from and make sure you get one that works and the dealer will back it up.

Question Re: Gamera High Grade Vision Display

I've check all the connections and the wiring harness but still no luck. When I power up the machine, the screen shows a pinkish-blue for about 3 seconds and then goes out. Any idea if it is the video board or the LCD screen? I don't want to replace both if I only need 1.

    Thanks,

    Ed

Take a good flashlight, and shine it closely on the screen trying different angle to see if you and see any images on the screen. It could be the inverter board, or the backlight on the panel its self.

Also, Did you talk to the vendor you purchased it from to see if they will repair or replace it?

My Gamera is now Dead. I turned it on, and there is no screen. The video is there, I can see it barely around the lighted window. But the back lighting for the screen is dead. I opened it all up and cannot find any internal lights. Does anyone know how to fix this? If not, The game is useless to me. I will sell it for parts if I can't fix it.

all fuses are good. There are only two that I can find on the power supply.

I've checked every connection. No Go.

There is a light built in and around the housing that holds the LCD. If you pull the frame that holds the LCD apart, (be careful and remember the dissembley order) you can see the tubes and the power supply for it.

Mine went out last year but I was lucky enough to be given a spare assembly from Birdbrain. That one had a bad LCD but the lighting worked on it. I swapped the frame using the good LCD and I was back up and running.

You might try taking it apart and check all the wiring for the lighting. If it's all good then you are looking for a new assembly.

Thanks NIT...I have a spare Gamera for parts...The LCD is bad on it, but the lights are good. T took the good LCD apart today, all the way down to the little tiny screws around the metal case. Where are the lights? I could not find them in the LCD.

They are not on the LCD. They are built into the white Frame. Put your Good LCD into that other Frame, put it all back together and slap er back in and you should be up and running.

No lights in the White frame except for the one that lights up the reels. The lights for the Monitor are inside the LCD panel itself. Unfortunately, it's a sealed unit.

I'll recheck my thinking on that. I would still put your good LCD into the other Frame and try it. The power for the lighting is on the Framework.

I'll get back to you when I open up the spare Frame. Off to work...

The LCD should have a separate power supply, usually the wires running to the light itself are pink and white. Try replacing just the power supply first.

You can't keep a good turtle down...GAMERA LIVES!!!

It was a combination of two items. I can see the Lights that are inside the sealed monitor, so I had to come to the conclusion that both bulbs couldn't fail at the same time...it had to be somthing else.
Compirate...You got it half right. I switched the power supply that was on the back of the LCD (long 9 inch board with two large brown starters).
    Nothing changed...
Then, I remembered to also change the small power supply for the reel light. then everything came back to life.

Day Late and a Dollar Short.

Sorry about the White Frame Thing. I had a "Senior moment"

Here are the Pic's of what he did. In the last pic, the board with the Red Arrows. Those 4 connectors were removed off of that board and he replaced it with the board from the other Frame.

    That's how I fixed mine.

Again, Sorry to confuse you on this.

I had to take it apart to remember what I did last year.

Congrats on getting it back up and Running.

New in town...Thanks for the Photos showing everyone exactly what I did. You didn't have to go through all that trouble taking it apart...but it is a good "fix It" reference for someone else. I wish I thought of snapping photos.

The only difference with my procedure was that my carpet is green. I found that it does not effect the results.

Gamera and I send thanks to everyone for there help.

Interesting side note...While reassembling the old monitor, I decided to re-seat the ribbon cables inside the LCD. The monitor only lit 1/3 of the screen...the rest was black. Once I did that, I put it back in the old door, and tried it. IT WORKED! Now I have two monitors working.
All I need to make the spare parts Gamera full again is belly glass, and a real assembly.
