    Smile Sophia Machine

OK, I am a newbie so please be nice...I purchased a machine today...because it was cool!!!LOL...It certainly doesn't look like the ones I have seen so far. Mine does not have the Ball feeder in front. I does have a really cool decorative ball catcher on front with an ashtray. Hopefully I can get the photos to upload. Perhaps someone can let me know what I have and how to make it work.
    Thanks!

Congrats saving a vintage machine Your machine is a 1 ball at a time machine the hole on the right side is where you put the ball in then flip the lever . Make sure the back tray has some ball in it for a payout . Your going to be useing a lot of Q-tips and either Simple Green or 409 to get the grime out of places you can' t imagine . If you can find a product called Blizt Cloth it will help you clean and polish all those Brass nail braids .

Welcome to the Dark Side P.S. in order to see whats in the Museum and research area , do some more post and you will get access to those area's

Wow...it looks like that modern "tiled" design has some retro roots! Very nice looking machine, I can't wait to see it sparkly!

    Lightbulb Re: Sophia Machine

Thanks everyone!!!Any Idea how old it may be...I am guessing the 60's...I'm not a very good guesser ...Does anyone else have a machine similar to mine???I have a few questions about some "arm" that swings our fron the middle back attached to the gray plastic thingy...Ahhh Yes..The thingy...My word for all things indescribable...I am also thinking this is a battery operated machine? I see a place where perhaps a fuse would go...it has a "1a" on it. there is also a small round sticker on the front lower right "NAG 12 OYA" Maybe that means I'm a nagger...LOL. there is also a patent number on the front on a metal piece in the center # 715186..OK..I am rambling now...

    Thanks again to everyone...

What has me puzzled is the front and back of the machine are several generations appart in machine design. The front is clearly a single ball machine. The back of the machine is much later Nishijin design with what appears some modifications to allow payout to go to the lower tray when it would normally go to the upper tray on a machine that had this back design. A very intersting machine.
As for the power, you will only need power to make the lights work, one usually went on when the upper tray was out of balls and the other when you get a jackpot.
Congratulations on a very intersting machine and welcome to the Dark Side

I have one like it and I was told by the seller that it's an early model and that later ones dropped the middle tray (Vintage Pachinko - Nishijin Models). I think mine is from around 1965. I'm guessing yours is older because it doesn't have the fancier saved-winning-balls window on the lower right that mine does.

You can buy a kit at the pachinkoman.com to get the lights working again, as well as DVD guides for restoring your machine.

    We have a PachiTalk Auction!!

It's the 3rd button from the right along the top

You will need to register using the same logins / passwords as here...

I don't think the Auction Area is dependant on post count??

PS for the other stuff, don't worry, it's not a million posts, its not too many

PPS I'm not sure that Birdbrain has anything listed right now, but you could always drop him a PM
using the Private Messages Function, or wait until he sees this Thread again...

Dove, I'm posting my answer here for the benefit of other forum members with similar machines.

    Your questions:
"I have another question you may be able to help me with. I've attached a photo. The item I am looking at is attached to the large grey box on the left. It is silver and pointed upwards. It is moveable, has a large spring. On top of the spring is a cap that appears to be moveable also. Also on the lower left side is a metal plate with a hole in it. If I send a ball from the very top ball holder it will make it's was all the way down and out that hole onto the ground (maybe there was a ball catcher tray that is no longer there.). One last thing. In the middle again on the left hand side extending into the grey tray is another spring balls will fall into that but cannot escape. you can see it better in pic #1853"

First of all, take a close look at my photo of the back of my machine (post #11). That will show you the correct positions of the parts you are referring to.

The silver part is a lid for the ball-splitting ramp between the tray on the left and the winning balls tilt tray on the right. The metal piece that it is attached to hinges and should be folded in so it runs alongside the ramp (there's a latch to hold it in place). Then the metal lid sits on top of the ramp with the short curve part pointing left. It will push the balls rolling into the ramp down so they form two single rows in the payout tilt tray.

The plate on the bottom left is for holding a collection tray for emptying all the balls from the machine (for maintenance purposes—the machines in a pachinko parlor are set in cabinets and the whole face of the machine swings out [latches are on left back]; but having the balls in the trays makes the door too heavy). I use a tupperware-type plastic container from the grocery to catch the balls when I need to empty them. The reason the balls are pouring out into that area is that the release lever is open. It's the two brass pieces with springs attached on the right just where the winning balls tilt out. Squeeze the two metal handles together and that will lock it back into the playing position.

The the spring that drops balls from the upper tray should be hooked on the side of the ball tray so that the spring hangs straight down. The horizontal connector end of the spring should be above the top edge of the tray. Look for a place to attach it where the metal ramp is attached to the tray edge. I will post a close-up photo of mine when I get home tonight.

Feel free to ask any other questions. That how I learned, and everyone benefits from the stored knowledge on PachiTalk. Search is your friend.

As for the age of the machine it looks like it still has it's license tags in the upper right corner. If you look close there should be two sets of number in english. If you post those we can tell you the exact year you machine was made.
