Default Is the Chance Button just random?

Hi, I have the Heiwa Lupin III Fujiko pachinko, and there is a blue central button that lights up. Usually it reveals what the delightful Fujiko has in her bag (bikini, lipstick perhaps) but during a reach video it seems you can affect the outcome, or can you? I haven't had any success yet! Any tips are very welcome!

There are a few pachinko machines which encourage the player to hit the chance button in rapid succession to the point where I thought it would break the machine.

I can tell you right now that it does not influence the outcome in any way. (Much like a pachislo which knows if you're going to win or not before you stop a single reel.)

However, if you don't hit the button when it tells you to... it is possible to skip a winning spin. But you only have to hit it once or... when it tells you to hit it over and over a few times is more than enough.

Bottom line: You get no extra chance for hitting the button (you've already been decided as a winner or a loser before the chance button lights up by the machine), but you can lose as a result of not hitting the button when you're told.

I have the Lupin version. I think it can hint at upcoming bonus rounds. For instance, the Lupin version on regular spins reveals a peanut, a cat, and a pair of boxer shorts lol. For upcoming bonuses, it reveals money, a lupin shirt, and a gun.
This game induces a kind of hypnosis, a strange feeling of happiness. Winning is hardly important. But, time passes. You lose touch with yourself for a while, and merge with a machine and perhaps you forget, what you always wanted to forget.....

CHANCE 1 a: something that happens unpredictably without discernible human intention or observable cause

Certainly true for Pachinko, but makes it seem a bit more interactive

The Saint Maria machine promotes chance button mashing. Most of the time I don't think it makes a bit of difference if you wail on the thing or hit it a few times. But there is a mode where the faster you hit it, the more bonus spins you can get after a fever. It's like playing that old Track and Field arcade game...the button takes a beating.

the original track and field game consisted of 2 buttons.
by pressing the two buttons at an interval you would gain speed
the faster you would press them and the better rhythm you got the faster you would go therefore making it possible to get better scores.. and blow the computer opponent away!
here is a quick little sketch with mspaint..

    TandF.jpg

so you kept the pressure on the left button and using the one finger underneath like a fulcrum you would tap the right side of the pencil and it was like spring loaded..you could tap away with less effort and more speed...

this also worked on the ATARI 2600 track & field with the special 3 button controller...

Ah... different era. I was thinking of the Track and Field mat for Nintendo.

Atari wasn't before my time, but I never picked it up.

    (Nice sketch, BTW. ^^)

I never heard of the pencil trick...but where could I find a machine to try it out now??? My hands would be all red and sore after playing that thing.

I remember a table style football game too...mostly X's and O's. It had a giant trackball which you'd have to spin like a madman/madwoman to move. That was always good for a nice pinch on the hand.

Atari Football The trackballs on that table had a "gap" that was just big enough to grab your fingers. That "feature" that was later fixed, so we could all enjoy Marble Madness ^_^

I do! We used tongue depressers instead though. Then they wised up and put raised borders around the buttons so you couldn't use that trick anymore.

Didn't they put those raised covers on the buttons because of the people that would play by pounding the buttons with their fists??

I remember, you could be at the back of the arcade and hear someone up front playing that way!!

It used to break the buttons!!

Was Circus the shooting gallery game? I can hear the music now, interrupted every once in a while by the ducks.

It's the teter-toter board one with the rows of balloons on the top of the screen and the little guy would be launched up and pop the balloons . If you timed it right with the last 2 balloons on all 4 levels you would get it to slightly pause and play "Tar-rah-rah boom-di-a" with each row cleared .

If the little guy hit the ground it would play a little part of the funeral march.

And this is my 300 th post

I have the Atari 2600 cart and the Commodore 64 version on a CDROM with the Mame emulator

Oh duh...the game I was thinking about was Carnival. Hmm..the game you describe sounds very familiar. Sort of like a teeter-totter breakout? I think I had it on the 2600 too.
