    Default Crazy Racer (Macy) Programming

If I start this machine with the reset key in the 3 o'clock position, it puts the LCD screen into some sort of programming mode. By using the control pad, I can go to Volume and change the number on the right from 256 to say 20 or 30. If I exit at this point and start the machine, it is at a nice low volume and will stay that way until I turn the machine off. The next time I turn it on it's back at the high volume. Is there anyway to retain these settings? This sure beats adding volume controls.

Has anyone played with the other programming modes in this area?

Ok here it goes... It looks similar to my MILLION GOD I did find a way to install a computer memory battery in it but it was a pain possibly more work than is worth it. if you want send good pictures of the door and chassis and I will try to track down the points to install it you will need a multimeter to test the voltage to the board, a battery (Likely a 3v lithium mine was) a holder for the battery, and a germanium diode to regulate the current flow as it will be a paralell adDition to the circuit (both cheap radioshack parts). if this sounds like more trouble than it is worth... it is...

    Thanks for the intro.

There is another menu selection that lists many options in Japanese and you can select Yes or No to each one. I have no idea what they do. Funny that the items are in Japanese, but the commands are in English.

I'll try and get some images posted, however I wonder how that would work. There is obviously some kind of backup in the machine, because it retains the date and time and that is selected/set in the same program area.

Germanium diode? Do they still make those?

Mine did not it reset each time to 2000/1/1 If yours does maintain the time there may already be a backup in it. do a search, possibly may have to open up the power supply.

It definitely has some sort of back-up, because I unplugged it for about 18 hours and it maintained the date/time. Based on that, I'm guessing that the auto reset feature can't be beat with just a battery backup. Too bad, because it's a great volume control feature.

usual backup on these is a capicator, when the charge runs down it neds a reset.

Based on Luckydogs post I am thinking that the backup is actually IN the power supply It looked like there were a few to many capacitors even for redundancy.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong. I leave the left set of numbers at 000 and only change the right set. I then hit the start lever and switch the key to the run mode. It stays that way until I power down.

I've tried many button options to save it, but each time I leave this program mode and return, the right set of numbers is back at 256. Has anyone (even with mods) been successful at saving the settings?

Here are images of the circuit boards in the door and on the back of the machine.

Every time I look inside of this machine, I'm amazed that these machines can be purchased so cheaply. They are well built and contain a lot of parts that would be expensive to purchase individually.

A little to close up I need to see the power supply leads to the boards and track things from there BUT, remember Luckydogs input If it is a cap it will be a larger one and the only place that those exist is inside the power supply.

I guess I'm a little confused. Are you adding a backup that doesn't exist or repairing one that is already there? Remember, my clock and date stay programmed even after the cord is unplugged.

Have you been successful with retaining the volume settings?

yes I have using the battery method, I am considering Luckydogs comment about a capacitor being the source of backup heat and shipping etc. My unit did not even hold time.

What we need to do is find the "Eprom" and trace back its power source to the harness attach a similar voltage backup battery with a one polarity diode so as not to get current feedback and that should keep all stored information for as long as the battery is good.

Can you go through the procedure that you use to save the volume? I'm still thinking that my backup is working and I'm not doing it correctly. That being said, it could be that the EPROM (possibly just RAM) is not intended to have backup and you're just fooling it.

I will go and look at the unit I gave a buddies son for his birthday and see I cant guarantee it will work on your machine unless it has the same MainBoard though. I will post detail pictures of the Mod and all the specs. I dont know if it will be this week, I am swamped with 40 apartments worth of furniture and gear coming into the warehouse this week and next and it will all have to be sorted and stored as well. I will see if he can take the pictures for me and e-mail them. Only good thing is I take a break and can post and browse here...

Thanks Martin, take your time. This machine isn't going anywhere. I'll keep playing with it as well.

try and trace down the low voltage paths from the power supply. see where they go that is a good place to start.
