Default Vintage Sankyo "SPARKMAN" Pachinko Machine

I wanted to show off my newest to me Pachinko. I had a long story about it over on the Trading post so I won't repeat. but this thing sure was filthy.

    Trading post thread - PachiTalk

Can someone tell me if I have a really dirty machine or has this thing been a volcano for the last ten years. when I recieved it it had a pitch black film of dust that would only come off on your finger, or cloth, or q-tip but would stay put with a pretty steady stream of water. is this stuff the smoke and tar from years of Parlor use or is this some magic make me crazy dust.

I also attached some pictures of Sparkman as clean as I can get him for now. and also Clarku Kentu (no relation to Sparkman)

    this machine is really fun.

I think the film of crud is most likely not from the parlor. It is my understanding that most parlors keep their machines fairly clean. It is not unusual to have a little cigarette residue on them, but nothing like what you described. You may have been correct about it having been in a building that was on fire. It could easily be smoke damage. It may be just years of buildup from sitting in a dirty garage or something like that. Looks like you got most of it off though...

My DRM machine had some strange residue on it from sitting in a garage with no front glass in it. I picked up one of Arby's Pica Cell Cleaners from the PT Auction, and it cleaned it right up. The cell cleaners are a little expensive, but save so much time, and work really well.

That little cleaner knocks hours off of cleaning the cell. First time I tried it on a vintage the whole face was shinning after on 20 min. The only reason it took 20 min was I had to clean it twice.

The Cell Cleaner is worth every cent!

I tried the q-tip thing once, and that was no fun at all. I cleaned my vintage that way, and will still need to go over it with the cell cleaner to get what I missed durring the 2 hour q-tip cleaning.

The money I saved in q-tips more then covers the cost of the cleaner.

It's a specially designed device made by Sankyo, and is used by the parlors for cleaning the cells (playing Field) of the Pachinko. They use them because they are quick, easy, and can get dirt out of places that most things can't. It's kind of like a high-speed vibrating brush on a hairdryer body, and comes with specially formulated cleaning/polishing liquid. They are very rare, and almost impossible to find. Basically, Arby is the only one I know of that can actually get them.

    Very cool little gadget!

    FWIW...

My experience has been that if you have a really smoky machine (like my NGE was), you almost can not avoid at least ONE hand cleaning. After that... the Pica Cel Cleaner is AWESOME for maintenance.

I personally don't use the cel cleaner "everywhere", I have found that it can cause micro-scratches if it is used is too aggressively. Nothing beats it for playfield/pins tho'
