No balls during or after a fever

My firworks somehow locks up after a fever. Mind you I only managed 2 on the machine in 3 weeks, but still...

The machine is modified to some degree :

1) there is no dongle on the DB25 connector
2) to fill the ballshooter tray, a switch is connected in series to the "fever" pocket.

When the lockup occurs, the Ball-out light flashes the whole time. When playing during and after the fever, no balls are dispensed, no matter in what pocket the balls land.

After powering the machine off (for 3 hours), even unplugging it, turning it back on does not resolve the issue. Only a hard reset seems to work.

What next is the question of course...

it sounds like you have a ball jam in the second part of the payout mech there are 2 parts one pays for normal play the oher in fevers on fire works iv had a few of the mech shift in transit from japan to here take a close look at the back and make sure all is lined up corectly if not its a screwdriver job if it is all lined up empty the balls out and start tracing the ball tracks down and see if you can spot the blockage and remove it with long nose plyers or tweasers befor having to take a screwdriver to it

My first attempt would be to look for any changes in error codes/LEDs on the back of the machine (or error messages on the LCD) between normal play and when the fault occurs, as this might give some clue as to where the problem lies.

It might also be due to the payout switch modification. It's possible that the internal auditing is figuring out that something's not quite right with fever payouts occuring during normal play while the fever door is closed. I'd try a hard reset and then playing through to a fever without using the payout switch, just to see if this has any effect on the problem.

It's worth checking for a ball jam though. I'm not totally convinced that a ball jam problem would resolve itself after a hard reset. But I'm not familiar with the early version of the Airvision frame, so it's possible that the machine might not report the error immediately if only one of the payout tracks is jammed, and might go into a fault condition only after it's made a certain number of payouts.

Ok, thanks for the tips. Well, I can't see any ball jams. In fact I emptied the machine (spilling 300 balls on the floor lol) and filled it with about 40 balls, to check what is going on.

The LEDs 1 and 4 are on all the time.

Now when I power up the machine, it empties 2x 15 balls in the tray. During that period, Light nr 4 goes off (only light 1 is on). After that , the light goes on and then its "game over" again.

Now, light 1 means : shooring balls prohibited, but it ALWAYS shoots balls (and there isn't even a dongle), so some kind of mod i guess.

Light 4 means : Out of balls, or Under tank full. Both these errors do not apply.


Seen that I don't feel to well tonight,I haven't played after the hard reset, but I have the feeling it's going to happen the same way and that i'm barking up the wrong tree here. By the way, after the reset only the first light is on.(which also should be off).

For DaveRob; I am not afraid of electronics, don;t mind disassembling the cell and sticking a multimeter in there, where ever necessary, but my knowledge is far insufficient to start farting around with the electronics myself.

Of course Arby. I haven't read all 280000 odd posts (yet), but i managed to find the excellent documentation centre in the Research centre. Alas, it didn't give me any new idea's.
