Wow, I didn't think England could get earthquakes. Googling it I read they've had them as far back as 1580.

I just do not recall ever hearing about them having one over there.

Actually it was quite scary to be woken around 1am by the house violently shaking,
    and a loud roaring sound...

We haven't had one like that apparently for 25 years,

I know you guys get worse, but England isn't very big, and the epicentre wasn't too far from me
and they are now describing it as 5.3

Living in Los Angeles, California, I know exactly how those in the UK feel right now. I was here for "the big one" in '94, and was rudely awakened at 4:30am. Too many stories to clutter this thread... so I won't Hope everyone's ok.

    Earthquakes are a complicated business..

the magnitude is not the only thing that one should take into consideration

the depth plays an important part the closer a quake is to the surface the more damage it causes (or more movement is noticed)

so a 4.7 at a depth of 10 km will do much more damage then say a 5.6 which is at a much deeper depth

here is the U.S. Geological Surveys up to the minute earthquake tracker
they offer specific details regarding earthquakes in real time

Latest Earthquakes in the World - Past 7 days

there has been a lot of seismic activity the last month or so, could this be

"I've stopped fighting my inner demons, we are on the same side now."

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make light of the earthquake in England. I know that it can be very scary for someone who hasn't dealt with them. The worst ones are when they come in the middle of the night. You just pray that they stop!

Well my first thought wasn't Earthquake when I was woken up!!

It was more along the lines of something Paranormal,
or maybe just a very vivid nightmare...

It may be that you've been watching too much "Dr. Who". Now that is an addictive TV series. Great Fun! Brilliant, as they say.
