I just got back from Radio Shack and was given a 5 pack of 1k-0hm Resistors (1/2 watt - 5% tolerance). I told the clerk what I needed the Resistors for, gave him a run down list of suggestions form this thread and told him I have no experience with this type of electronics. Did I purchase the right part? I don't feel that I did though it only cost me $1.07

    Screw it!

    I just sent for the 50 ohm 10W 5% Wirewound Resistor (2-Pack) and the 100 ohm 10W 5% Wirewound Resistor (2-Pack).

So when I get these bad boys in all I have to do is cut the speaker wire, solder one set of red/white wires (from the speaker) to one side of the resistor and then solder the other red/white wires (leading where they clip into the board) on the other resistor side? Should I use electrical tape after this to seal them in?

AGAIN I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE AT THIS, SORRY

You need to cut one of the wires out of the two leading to the speaker, it doesn't matter if you choose to cut the red wire or the white wire, just don't cut both!

Then solder one end of the resistor to one of the cut wires, and the other end to the other cut wire. You can then cover the soldered joints with insulation tape or sleeving whichever you prefer.

Then repeat the whole lot with one of the wires leading to the other speaker.

BTW the 1k resistors you got earlier are really too high a value for these purposes. They'll make the sound way too quiet, even if the factory volume switch is set to the maximum level.

So I soldered the 50-Ohm's in and can now safely say I can approach my Pachinko without busting an ear drum. The audio pumping though is no louder than my brother's Creature from the Black Lagoon pinball machine. A good loud sound for close game play. The resistors are a bit big (1 1/2" long) though with some finagling I got them in and could close the case fine.

Image 1) Resistor soldered, taped and shoved snug into place.
Image 2) Both resistors in place, note that I didn't tape the left one so you can see my work.

Anyone that needs to do a sound mod on their machine should read this thread. Thanks everyone for all your help.

You should see the 200W ones we use in the studio to burn-in power amps They're about a foot long, and maybe 1" thick, and they glow red hot under load!

    Welcome Aboard

Not sure on this model, Try posting a pic of the back of the machine, Its is normally a 3 postion slide switch, but it does vary.
