Default Hi folks and a Computer Pachinko

    Hey there,
After browsing this forum for the last week or so, I thought it was time to do a little post myself. Gee whiz, never thought that pachinko was a well known item in the states, till i started actively looking for these machines 3 weeks back.
I lived in Japan at the age of 8, which is about 38 years ago and the movie "lost in translation" triggered the latent pachinko virus again.

I roamed ebay and found an old vintage Popeye OkumuraYuki which has been shipped accross the globe and is in my living room now. Alas, somewhat damaged and utterly filthy inside, I am sure I will get it going soon.

I noticed that on the European continent the Pachinko is virtually unknown. I have been looking at the local auction sites and almost nothing is to be found. But I got lucky, about an hours drive from here I got an original computer pachinko. I put a picture up. The shark theme is one I saw somewhere on a nishin machine, so I gather they come from the same place. Thre electronics don't work yet but I have the feeling there are some of you out there who might help me out.

Thnx in advance, nice reading your posts and see you all soon.

Welcome to PachiTalk, Garfield. After you get the first Pachi working, start making room for more. It's a very contageous hobby.

    First welcome to The Show!!!

Now congrats on your finding a great the machine! I am looking for one of those machines and have had no luck.

Here is a thread and some vids of a Coin Op Pachinko that I have and what was involved in getting it to working condition. It too had electric problems.
Your machine is different but you may encounter the same problems that I had in getting it repaired.

I hope it is just a simple problem. Please go into detail as to what is wrong and maybe we can help you to repair it.

Thnx for all the nice replies.

Okay, now i inspected the machine real good. It seems that this machine has not been adapted for coins, but that it is originally designed as a closed system that uses coins. (So that is dissimilar to Eddies machine. I.E. there is only One ball tray, where all balls come back to, no matter if it is win or lose. When there is a win a solenoid releases a few balls into a see-through compartment on the front of the machine. I guess the printed circuit board with some basic switching logic is boss over the amounts of payouts. A few solenoids combined with a few levers decide which of the pockets are open or closed and in one of the ball-paths there is a light sensitive switch, which seems to count balls passing.

I found out why the electrical system doesn't work : The original transformer is fried. The 220V to 120V transformer is still okay. (We like to live dangerous here, so no 110V ). Problem is what the secondary power might be. I see two power leads coming from the transformer, so I expect 12V for the lights (seen that they are 12V light bulbs) and 5V for the circuit board, (it's filled with 74xx logic, which runs on 5V).
I was thinking that maybe a PC powersupply might do the trick, I got a few of them kicking around.. . Any Idea's anyone ?

PS : You guys post to much, its gonna take me ages to read all the stuff and to keep up with all the new stuff !!!

Very few of those coin ops are around. good and bad news, very collectable but not too many are familiar with them.
Right away I suspect you have a modafied version on top of your other issues.
The lost ball should not return to the front. If it is returned each shot how will the parlor make $? maybe a solenoid is controlling it so it might not be hacked after all.
I would like to see photo's of the back of your machine.
    Cheers,

Well Mike, I added 2 close up pics of the back (The whole back is in the original post).

In the first pic, you see the ball tray (3) which initially contains all the balls in the machine, about 100 balls. Now when you insert a coin, the solenoid (1) releases 6, or 5 or 4 balls over the bell (2) into the front compartment where you fire the balls into the machine. All "miss" balls return to the tray (3).

When you get a "win" , the balls come past the blue light sensor (4) in the right hand corner (picture 2) and i assume that triggers the solenoid (1) to pay out some balls. A also assume that the balls are counted so as to obtain a score which the LED display on the front keeps track off. I also assume that above a certain score, pushing the replay button on the front, gives you new balls to play with. Also a "win"ball comes back to the front of the machine and not into the ball tray.

Seen how the machine is built, it definitely does not feel like a modification. I think the designer wanted to create a pachinko - pin ball machine. roud:

Phew, that was a whole lot of assuming , i hope to find some time in the weekend to do a little tryout. Although I might have to postpone a it, cuz I might have to go to the coast to check out two other pachinko machines. Seen the unpopularity of pachinko over here, i don't want to miss this opportunity ... Did I say I was hooked ???

    Next step;

I hooked up the pachinko to a PC Power supply like i mentioned earlier ( see pic 1). (Dont mind the added hard drive and the fan ... not that that really helped anywayzz , but it looks interesting :fisheye: and was just put in to make sure the powersupply was working :lol8: ).

After powering up the machines the lights came on and a solenoid switched. Then when I hit the replay button, i got one load of balls and ... thats it basically.

The printed circuit board fails somewhere. I analysed the board and its not a difficult setup. I think re-engineering the board will show what all the functions will be. So far I found out that on the board (pic 3) the chips 3 in conjunction with 2 are the IC's that make the display light up. And that works as you can see. The rest is basic logic which i have to figure out yet.

The 5 transistors are used to light up lamps and power the solenoids. I haven't found out what the little relais (1) on the board is for.

Well so far so good, next step is a good visual of the backside of the circuit board, resolder the lot and see what happens. If that doesn't do the trick, re-engineering the board is next on the list and hope that not too many ic's are fried.

I must say i'm quite chuffed with the powersupply solution :approve:

Didnt you have to insert the quarter to get the balls to dispense on power up?

Is the machine stuck in a tilt mode?
