Default How the basic game works...

I am now the proud owner of a 2nd impact Evangelion pachinko machine which came for christmas. The thing is beautiful, and works great! My prior experience with pachinkos dates from the 70s when my parents had bought one from (I think) Montgomery Wards. This machine is a bit different.

There seems to be more to the game nowdays than simply shooting the balls into the field and trying to get them in the pockets (the shooter mechanism alone took me a couple of minutes to figure out - I was expecting a lever like my original).

I have done some net research, but it all seems general. I was hoping someone could point me at a gameplay manual of sorts which explains the pockets, the use of the chance button, and what all the numbers mean on the video screen. I understand that there is a 5 minute timer on the machine which activates during a 'fever' round, although I don't know what that is or how to make it happen. The robot head also seems articulated like it can growl, but I dont know how to make that happen either.

Can someone tell me how this game works, or point me at a site with information of this detail?

Sorry for the newbie question. Also, thanks to this site for the info on the volume installation. I was easily able to follow the directions for the installation of the variable resistors on the speaker leads which has made my wife much happier (or atleast much less UNhappy) with the machine itself!

    Thanks,
    -S.

Congrats on your machine...I understand the Evangelions are beautiful Pachinkos. To answer your question, we are all in the same boat. As these machines are imported...but were never intended to be imported, there is very little info out there to be had and practically none in English. We have a research center here that will have a link to the manufacturers site. We also have a few members here that have Evangelions...but we have pretty much had to do a lot of the figuring out on our own and then sharing the info!

Thanks for the welcome and the background on the Eva machine. Is there a basic guide which would explain some of the (seemingly) common game concepts like a reach or fever which I could refer to?

I understand that, basically, its still about shooting balls into pockets. These terms do reoccur throughout the other posts, and I would like to get a basic understanding of how these machines work in general, even if the specific triggers for my Eva machine are not widly known.

Is there a primer on how these things generally operate I could look at?

    Thanks again,
    -S.

    Welcome aboard!!
Check out this FAQ for Pachinkos from the Research Center-
    http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/loca...s.php?catid=65

It contains several sections on basic Pachinko operation and other info.

And here is the link to your specific machine from the museum -
    http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/loca...tid=3&linkid=8

Not much info there, but it is the translated page for that machine.

    Hope this helps

I also just got this machine (NGE 2nd Impact) and am really impressed with it so far!

Had to install a couple of resistors (10ohm 10W) in series w/the speakers, as it was much too loud! Now it's much more tolerable and though loud, not overpoweringly so on the low setting.

the 5 min and 3 min countdowns happen at random and are more or less to keep you playing (but I have gone into fevers from them when it has a reach on the "mission" number)

The head will move when it has a reach with unit 01 or if it goes into "berserker" mode, again at random.

the chance button is easy, If it is on press it.

I have the first three in the series (four is just now coming into parlors) and love all of them but the lights on this one are the best.

The more you play the more you will understand what is happening, watching the series in Japanese with subtitles a few times may help too

Just added my Avatar. I am quite a fan of the series, and am one of the few people I know who believe the movie and TV endings are not mutually exclusive (I prefered the TV ending myself).

Thanks for the info! I (and my 7year old son) have spent a good deal of time playing the machine sofar, and have become familiar with some of the features. I was going to ask about the 3 and 5 minute countdowns, as we have hit both, and they did seem random.

We have noticed some other things which I am curious about, if you have worked out their function...

What does the chance button actually do? sometimes, pressing it only results in a black box with "..." in it, and sometimes some dialog (instructions?). Otherwise, I cannot determine any other effect on the board or payoffs.

On the lower left side of the playing field (cell?) there is an indicator with a yellow LED which sometimes flashes, next to two arrows which are alligned like this <>. Below this, are a series of 4 red bar-type LEDs which have a "2" and "15" marked on them. I have seen them light up solid, or flashing, individually or together. On the face of it, is what appears to be a 2 digit number LED, but it never says anything other than "--". This seems to be some kind of status indicator. Any idea of its function?

    Thanks again,
    -S.

when you press the chance button it is like flipping a coin, if the character speaks the text will be in the box and most of the time you will get a reach. if you loose the flip they will say nothing and the box will have"...". The chance button will light up at the start of most video reaches but pressing it just gives you some duologue.

The "<>" LED's are status indicators that tell what mode the machine is in. The yellow led and the 2 bottom red LED's are the roulette for the wings on the lower start pocket and the LED's by the 2 and 5 tell you which fever it is in (but I don't think any Evangelion models use a 2 round fever.

The 2 7 segment LED's are for displaying a code when the machine is in fever, some parlors use this info for something I think but you can ignore them as they have no importance to the game

I can't wait to see the "rebuild" movies and for them to make the live action movie.
