    Default Lazy reel

Went to play my spin luck after it was sitting for a few months, and find that reel one (left hand side) does not want to roll. It will move back and forth and once in awhile it seems to catch (work). Is this a steeper motor problem? I've had the connections on and off and it does not seem to be the problem. If it is a steeper motor problem who can I get one for a spin luck from? Are they interchangeable from one model to another?

    Thanks in advance,
    James

The reel assembly should be the same as other IGT models.

is the reel just moving slightly up and down and making a noise while doing so ? if it is its most likely that it is a bad connection clean the plug connections with contact cleaner and try again also look at the position sensor at the same time. Also swap the effected reel with another reel (actually unplug another reel and swap the two reel assemblies but make sure you mark the reels so you don't mix them up)and see if the problem goes with the reel .if it does then you might actually have a problem if it doesn't you most likely have a wire issue . stepper motors are known for being reliable and don't usually fail but their not like a regular motor they rely on multiple field windings to move the motor and if one doesn't work its similar to a three phase motor blowing a fuse it wont turn either . But a stepper will act like it wants to turn and is just stuck because the leading winding is not working .it uses this method to make the stepper turn and stop at the exact position its suppose to stop at instead of slipping past the intended stop (yes your reel stops exactly where its suppose to stop theres no such thing as slippage with a stepper motor .its a display device like a monitor on a computer and nothing more unlike the reels in a mechanical machine .)
heres a url to explain stepper motor theory if you want to understand it in detail .

    Thanks Jeff,

"But a stepper will act like it wants to turn and is just stuck because the leading winding is not working ." This is what mine is doing!

I swapped the contacts from one reel to another and guess what, it works, and the one I swapped acted up. So it looks like it's a contact problem. Tomorrow I'll buy some contact cleaner and clean the contacts and see how that goes.

    Getting a little closer,
    James

i'm not sure if you have radio shack's in Canada but if you do they have a chemical that deoxidizes contacts comes in a pen type device its not cheap but works real well for this application .also don't forget to follow the ribbon connection all the way back to the cpu board any one of those connections could be at fault .

    Time to update this thread:

When I first used the contact cleaner nothing happened, so I just let the machine sit. Yesterday I plug it in after 6 months and guess what, Now it works fine, so the contact cleaner did work, it just took a while to get in fix the corrosion or what ever the problem was.

So the lesson I learned is that contact cleaner does work, but sometimes takes a little longer than you think!

Thanks for the help and now I can play my Spin luck again.
