    Default Reversible Payout Assembly Mod

Here's a simple, reversible mod for the Payout assembly on some Sammy models.

    PROBLEM:
Shortly after receiving my Freddy vs, Jason, I converted it to full cyclic mode. Only problem was that the payout motor never shut off after you sunk a ball in a payout pocket. Well the easy fix is to just unplug it and not worry about it, but, what if you wanted to use it somehow as a counting gizmo with a PachiCounter? The payout assembly would have to see "balls" going through it and send the proper signals back to the controller board.

    HOW IT WORKS:
The payout assembly consists of a housing, stepping motor, shaft with 6 paddles and a notched wheel on the end, a double optical sensor in the ball channel of the housing, and an optical sensor that reads the notches in the notched wheel. Whenever a ball goes through a payout pocket on the cell, the controller board starts the stepping motor turning until the proper amount of balls are paid out. The controller looks at the count from the notch sensor and from the double sensor and if they are equal then everything is fine, if not, then a payout error has occured and the stepping motor keeps spinning until the count is equal. That's why you have to keep dumping balls in the hopper after a fever round to "shut the dang thing up"

    THE SOLUTION:
I plan on placing a PachiCounter sensor under the notched wheel as a way of counting balls won on my Freddy so, I had to find a way of making the payout assembly think it was paying out balls. All I needed to do was remove a few parts in the assembly and extend the paddles so that the double sensor reads them as balls. By placing electrical tape on the paddles and trimming it so that the paddles were now about 1/8 of an inch longer I was able to fool the sensors. The mod is really simple and if I want to set things back to right all I have to do is remove the tape and reinstall the parts.
Just study the photos, you'll see what I mean.

I have installed Gaku's PachiCounter on my Freddy.

    1) Using a dremel tool, I notched out a hole for the shooter sensor in the shooter channel above the hammer. This sensor counts the balls shot...D'uh

    2) Notched out and installed the payout sensor under the payout assembly so that it sees and counts the notches in the notched wheel. The count for balls won.

    3) Testing...dropped ball into start pocket.......3 balls.....good

    4) Testing...dropped ball into side pocket........15 balls...right on

You have to play a little to get the sensors positioned to count right, but all in all not too hard of a project to do. Gaku's counter works pretty good and with this mod on a cyclic mode machine the winning count is darn near right on. I'd say this job is done.
