Question Ideas for a Cell Case

While drawing up ideas for building my next cabinet, I started thinking of ways to protect my cells that are stacked in the corner. As being in earthquake central, I figured it was not good to have them stacked and near looming Pachinko machines that could smash them. I decided on a small wooden box. I was thinking of lining the box with a rubber mat (like a thicker, springy mouse pad) with the pin side down. Then I got to thinking that the weight of the cell will start cutting into the mat over time and the pins might get bent or damaged. So now for help.

Is it better to store face up or face down? Face up will allow me to see which cell it is without having to take it outta the box, but I am worried if the electronics will not be able to handle the weight.

Should I have a soft cushy surface for protection or a ridged piece for more support? Right now I have them lying on cardboard to protect the face and am concerned about just laying them on wood with no protection.

I also thought of having a plastic sleeve on the out side of each box, so that I could put a picture of whatever cell I have stored for quick and easy searching.

Thanks all in advance for any help

I would stand them on their sides. This way the weight is on the wood, and protects both the electronics and pins.
I have my extra cell standing up on a shelf in my living room for all to see.

This is my personal opinion, or of the voices in my head, and are not meant to reflect the opinion of this board.

I would stand them on the edge and printout a picture of the cell and tape it on the top edge of the box.

just like records----there would be less pressure on them that way!!!!

or make a wooden framework with slots to slide them in.

Great question dhcloud - I have been having the same concerns & was going to post a similar question.

I have 3 cells now that do not have a frame & have wondered about having them laid flat. I was thinking about some kind of frame to hold them in would probably be the best option.

I wrap with three layers of Bubble foam sheets and have a stiff cardboard infront of the nails and video screen. I store this way stacked up to 4 high.
    I shipp in a 24" x 24" x 14: heavey cardboard box.

    Why not buy some 22" x 22" x 10" boxes for storage ?

two bucks a box is pretty cheap, and stackable
