    Default 2 new 70s toys!

I couldnt resist when I saw them! One is a marx pinball machine with a VEGAS THEME with the names of long gone casinos! I had to get 2 machines in order to put together one perfect one! Of course the wiring was bad and the scoring motors were shot! The machine is RIVETED together? No screws to access the playfield for repairs and the rivets went into the clear plastic playfield, So as you can imagine it was tedious work taking this thing apart. Now it is like new with everything working as it should! The Head Board features an Arm that moves to keep score and a Light that comes on and a bell that rings as the ball hits the bumpers! The Bumpers are not mechanical they just triger the sounds and lights. The bumpers have springs that help the balls bounce around! The playfield's art is what really makes it, as it has some history to it with pictures of the old casinos. The machine uses one flipper which is in the center of the playfield with the control button on the left of the machine. It is not electrically driven but mechanically! the small paddle wheel to the left of the shooter keeps the balls from comming back to the shooter after they have been played and (Drained). After the last ball is played you push down on the wheel releasing the lock and then you can rotate it allowing the balls to go back to the shooter area. It operates on 4 d batteries but I will install a transformer and maybe some more lights to the scoreboard! It plays really well and the vid is comming!

The next new addition is a Marx Torpedo. A sort of cross of Pinball,Bagatelle and Skeeball! It took awhile but I restored it to like new condition. I just need to make some feet for the side facing opposite the shooter to elevate it a bit (The feet were Missing) Its really cool to watch it work pull back the shooter arm and release. The balls travel around the sprial ramp shoot into the air and land into the cocentric rings. If you pull the shooter all of the way back the balls shoot so fast you can barely see them travel the ramp! Almost impossible. Once again rivets held this one together! Whats with that? Rivets on Plastic Pachinkos and the like of the 70s and Staples on Vintage Pachinkos. Didnt they like screws? probably a child safety mamby pamby thing! Will add this game to the video too. just waiting for the Dingaroo and 2 other Plastic Pachinkos that are in transport to complete the machines for the vid

Heres the pics of Torpedo! These kinds of games make great additions to gamerooms as they have unusual shapes and are related to Pachinkos they make for nice displays.

Thats how the pinball was assembled. I had to grind the outside lips of the plastic rivets( Or should I say posts? They are really posts that are part of the faceglass that go down and through the metal playfield where they are mushroomed over as a rivet) Then I used metal clips to refasten everything! There were many posts on the pinball playing surface! And yes it is messy with the plastic dust. LOL
The Torpedo Shooter was assembled with three metal pins that were forced into the playfield. I had to drill the plastic caps off from the bottom of the playfield and then use a punch pin to drive them up and out. I replaced them with screws.

I guess if any of you guys get some of these things.. Im the man to ask about fixing them up by default LOL

I use to work for Marx Toys, wish I had a dollar for every Big Wheel I saw go down the assembly line. The electric toys were made in Erie, Pa. Marx sold their toys on consignment and any water damaged or open packaged item would be returned to the factory of origin. Every once in awhile some of the Erie, Pa. stuff would come to our warehouse by mistake for repackaging. Needless to say we would get stuff a piece at a time, sort of like that Johnny Cash song. I had one of their pinball machines with legs. If you could manage to get all the parts for a Stutz Bearcat battery operated car you were in an elite group.

Musky, I don't know if you heard this or not but the old Marx electric train line (K-Line) just got sold to their arch nemesis Lionel. They are comming out with a road system for trollies and speeder (and small switch locomotives).

Yes, I heard that, the trains were made in Erie as well. Eddie, I think those toys you got may have come from the plant I worked at. We mostly made the plastic dolls, riding toys, metal doll houses and play sets like the Fort Apache play set. We also made cars and trucks, plastic army men and such. We did make some marble pinball games with the spring loaded shooter.
