Default Question for Mame Arcade Cabinet Owners

I'm thinking of upgrading my Mame arcade cabinet joysticks. I currently have two Happ Ultimate 8 way joysticks installed. One problem I'm having is the sticks are not working that great when trying to hit the diagnals. I'm thinking this would be resolved with a restrictor plate. I've looked at a couple joysticks with restictor plates such as groovygame gear.com 's Omni Stick Basic $13.95 and Dream Arcades Ball Top joystick 2 for $15.99. Anybody use these or know of another good joystick. My price range is $30 for two joysticks. Thanks for any replies

The keyboard encoder seems to be working good. The cherry switches on the joystick all work, but they don't always make contact when in the heat of playing the game. I tested both joysticks with the software that came with the keyboard encoder, they both work. I'm using Groovy Game Gears Keywiz.

only if you want to attach an arcade joystick to your setup.

Ive built a mame cabinet so i needed the emulator so i could have an arcade joystick on the cabinet..

you can always build one yourself if you have the patience...

I too use the Happ joysticks with the IPAC2, never had any problems with diagnols here.

On My Mame, I too have the Happ Joysticks ( Super Joystick 4-way, 8-way Microswitch) and I use the IPAC controler with them. I keep them on 4-way and I have no problem with diagnals. When I tried it with 8-way, I was making left and right turns in directions I didn't want to go. Also, it's important to leave the standard Microsoft Keyboard Drivers in the PC. I tried a wireless keyboard that had me use there drivers, and it caused major problems with the controls...everything would start out ok (pacman) and after about ten seconds, the controls started getting a delay of about two seconds.

I have used happ supers, comps and ultimates, all had the same issues with diaganals.

I ended up getting some midway 49way joysticks. They are optical, so no clicking :-)
You wire them up with groovy gamegears' gpwiz49's,
    http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/i...roducts_id=202
and use a program called set49way, and when I select a game from my frontend (MALA in my case), it automagically switches to the games specific mode (2way, 4 way, 8 way, 49way progressive, or even 4 way diag (qbert).

There isn't a single joystick game I can't play in it's native mode now, and no issues with the char stopping on a diag like they used to (donkey kong comes to mind)

I ended up ordering GGG's Omni Stick Basic. I wanted to get Ultimarcs Ultimate 360, but just a bit to much for me to spend right now. I've also looked into the 49 way joysticks, GGG does not carry them anymore. Randy from GGG told me he is coming out with his own 49 way to compete with Ultimarcs Ultimate 360. The Omni Sticks I purchased have a short throw and come with brackets to switch between 4 way and 8 way. They already seem a hundred times better than the Happs for diagonals.

Good luck with the omni's, sounds like you may be all set then!
Yeah, I heard Randy was coming out with the 49ways, I picked mine up off eBay for $40 off an old midway football game.
    Cheers!

I use Mame32 right now, but I will be adding Mala for a frontend. One reason I'm going to use Mala is because of the LEDwiz add on that was recently released. Anybody that does not have the LEDwiz, I would recommend it. Programs for it are increasing . Its a nice feature for lighting up your control panel.
