Hopper spins backwards

Ok kids, I got a mephisto machine that a customer has brought in.
It won't pay out, and when the hopper dump switch is pushed, it spins in the wrong direction.
After hitting the third stop button it will just sit there and do nothing. Can't make any of the buttons work, until I push the hopper dump.
I have gone over it from top to bottom, every connection unplugged and replugged.
Thoughts?

Ok here is an update on more symptoms. If I push the stop buttons from left to right the reels stop and it sets there doing nothing. If I stop the reels in any other order the last or last two buttons I push will not stop the reels.
This thing is buggy!

sounds like one of the diodes on the back of the motor is blown for the reverse spin problem. i just happened to have a motor in my hand when you posted this so i cut one and have the same results. the button problem? your on your own.
oh! another thing i found out: when you apply straight power from a transformer to a motor it just sits and vibrates. as it is 24v ac not yet converted to DC through the pwr supply.

My Fever Queen Pachislo was messed up when I got it, after swapping parts out and replacing them it still wouldn't work.

I put all the old parts back in and it worked.

I think you may just have a poor connection somewhere. maybe try contact cleaner on all your connections.

Multiple problems like this might be a symptom of a larger issue. Sounds like your transformer is not making the correct voltage.? Not sure can you check the voltage output and polarity. That might explain the diode failure and the flakey main board. it sounds like the stop board is affected as well. Honestly never had that set of problems I am interested to know what the case is.
Maybe you need a Pachi priest to perform an exorcism on the demons living in it.

I agree, It must be something of a bigger problem. When I hit the dump switch on my mephisto, it runs backwards also, but yet I can hit any button I choose to stop the reels with no problem....

check your transformer.(these put out 24Vac, not dc)if it is only producing the neg side of the 24v ac(bad winding) it could be the problem.

I can't get to the machine till Sat.
A little history on it, customer bought it almost 2 yrs ago. It worked fine until recently.
I'll put a meter on it tomorrow and see what the voltage is.

When I hit the dump button it rotates counter clockwise and no tokens spit out. If I rotate it clockwise by hand, the tokens are spit out the spit out slot (Gawd I love technical terms!).

maybe on some machines when you hit the button it runs backwards to clear the jam?????

thats true lucky some do spin backward to relieve a coin jam .....i've run into about two of them . as for the rest does it give an error when it doesn't pay out . almost sounds like you have a stop button sticking according to your description of the button play .i haven't tried holding a button in (last button pushed during play ) to see if it will not pay out but if you aren't getting an error id say thats most likely the cause .from the sounds of your description its the right stop button that sticking "If I push the stop buttons from left to right the reels stop and it sets there doing nothing. If I stop the reels in any other order the last or last two buttons I push will not stop the reels." defiantly couldn't hurt to clean those buttons up first ......

Just a tidbit the only ones I saw do this are Yamasa, the button is on the power supply.

If I hold in the last stop button I push on the Mephisto on any win, even a 777, it will NOT payout until I release the stop button...

mephisto is a Yamasa and the button will stop the pay out i believe we have a winner .....hopefully .........

Ok this what I have found out so far. I can't get to the machine today like I thought (it's at the shop).
THe hopper is supposed to run backwards when the button on the power supply is pushed. SO now we know that is not the problem.

Tomorrow evening the manager at the store is gonna meet me there and we are gonna meter the transformer and clean the buttons. Hopefully this will solve the problem.

Alright, just metered the transformer. 23-28 VAC. Damn, that's not it.

Tore apart the buttons, and cleaned them. Damn that's not it.

SWapped out stop board. Damn that's not it.

Doesn't matter what button is plugged into what spot Left button acts normal, right button stops reels with no sound, center button does nothing.
Unplugged everything and looked over for bent pins, replugged them all back in. No change.
I am at a loss, I think it has a bigger issue at this point.

my problem was solved with a poor main board connection!!!!!!

I unplugged it 3 or 4 times while checking things and viola!!! it worked

another update that I should have posted on the last one.
If I let the middle reel spin (as if I have a choice). It will stop after a little bit and it acts like I pushed the button, ie pays out, get ready for the next spin, etc.
