    Default Winning Pachinko book

I was surfing the web last week and came upon this book. It looked like it could be an informative and fun read.
I tried to see were I could buy it but I only found it going fo $45 and up!!! I thought what is that about its only a paperback? I tried ebay and 2 were going for $125 and the bidding wasnt over!!!!!!!!!! Next I checked amazon and $75 and up?????? It seems that the book is rare or something! So I kept searching for more info and came upon an old foreign book webpage that had one copy for?????? $25........ so I snatched it.
I figured hey it must be good! Its a very small paperback and I believe it is a Japanese publication only. YEN Publishing. First and from what I can see only year published is 91
It was in a few book stores in England on the web.
I havent really gone through it yet but its in great condition I would say mint!
There are some pages with B/W Photos and some diagrams of cells. Cant wait to read it.
If I could I would scan every page for Pachitalk but It would get damaged.
I would really like to share it with you guys, as there really arent many books written on this subject. and I think you guys would find it facinating! I will think about scanning after I have read it.

A while back I obtained several copies of that book from a wholesaler and I sold all but 3 mint copies that I still have of it. We have had discussions about it here on pachitalk and in fact arbycoffee even references it here :

    http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2536

And a small discussion is here :

    http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/show...nning+pachinko

I actually had emails going back and forth between me and Eric (the Author)and the publisher of the book as I wanted to get the rights to publish it for a one time printing. The publisher rushed out a new contract to Eric to sign (which he did) and then they told me they would want 500.00 up front plus 10.00 per book commission and I had to have the printing done and bear the costs to it also So it never happened.

From my understanding of everything they were going to supposively reissue it themselves but I haven't seen any new printings.

It's a great book and the only one I have seen that covers as much as it does.

It's a great deal now at 25.00. I also saw that they were at 75.00 on Amazon which is crazy for a small paperback

Not that I am aware of.

He lives in the US now and I believe he is working at an University. I had asked him if he was considering updating his book to current day pachinkos and he said that he hadn't been around pachinkos for a long time -so probably not. How I found him was I did a search for him via the internet.

Yep it's good reading and gives good insight to the game we call pachinko.
Again for an example of what it has in it check out the pachitalk.com url I gave where arbycoffee has posted a few pages of it that discuss the pins and their placement etc.

The problem with OOP books are that they unfortunately are OUT OF PRINT and thus become that term we call "RARE". So called collectors of "RARE OOPS" are known at times to pay large sums of money for these. This particular book is not only OOP but also has a copyright on it and unfortunately a publisher that won't apparently reprint it. Does anyone know how long a copyright is good for legally and how to check if a copyright can be reapplied for and how? What would be interesting is to see if this has fallen into the public domain yet.

I think Eddie might have a good idea to go ahead and scan the pages and post them here if the copyright isn't in fact current.

EDDIE all I have is from the book :

Copyright Date is 1991 by YENBOOKS

    First Edition , 1991
    Sixth Printing , 1994

    My contacts were :

YENBOOKS = Tuttle Publishing in Vermont

    https://peripluspublishinggroup.com/tuttle/

Eric Sedensky (the author of the book) I believe is still here :

    Eric Sedensky
    Assistant to Plant Manager
    McCord Leakless Sealing Company
    Athens, AL

    http://www.jasaweb.net/board.asp

And I believe he is still a member of :

The Japan America Society Of Alabama

    Hope this helps

The book will most certainly be in copyright (and will remain so for quite a few more years).

This means that a direct scan of the entire book would definitely be in breach of copyright legislation. However I believe it would be permissable to use extracts from the book for educational purposes, such as using a couple of pages as a quotation in answer to a question. Such as the information already posted on nail setting.

It would also be OK for someone here to write a similar book or online guide that contains the same information as this book (but maybe with the information updated for more modern machines), as long as it is not essentially a direct copy of the book with only a few words changed.

Yep Dave I think the copyright more than likely is still there.

I agree that the publisher would probably say it is ok to go ahead and post selected pages here. They might want a small reprint fee which maybe would be worth it to the members here ?

So Eddie contact the publisher and tell them what pages you want to post and maybe they will say no problem and at no cost or maybe it would be such a small amount that we could agree to pay it somehow?.

But I like your idea Dave of just rewriting a new book as this one is out of date anyway on a few things. There are enough knowledgeable members here that could join together and do this and maybe make it so that all proceeds go to keep the pachitalk.com site going

FYI: 50 years after death of author. or 50 years after publication if author unknown.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan_c..._of_protection

    Length of protection

Works authored by an individual, under his own name or a known pseudonym, are protected for fifty years following the individual's death. Works authored anonymously or under an unknown pseudonym, as well as works authored by corporations, where the individual author or authors are unknown, are protected for fifty years following publication. Japan is considering extending the duration of protection to seventy years to be more in line with the United States and other nations.

Cinematographic works are protected for seventy years following publication (or seventy years following creation, if the work is not published). This update was made in 2004 to be more consistent with other nations around the world.

Neighboring rights apply for fifty years after the work is performed, transmitted, or put on sale.

Works authored by or transferred to residents of Allies before the effectuation of the San Francisco Peace Treaty have given some prolonged protection by an exemption law. This extension compensates for the unprotected period in World War II, and varies with the country of the author or the copyright holder in the wartime. The prolongation is normally by 3,794 days (including Australia, Canada, France, United Kingdom, and the United States), but some countries ratified later, and have longer wartime (the longest is 4,413 days for Lebanon).
