    Default Wobbly Reel Pt Deux!

I wish I would have looked in on this thread while it was open. I guess I need to visit more often.

Nevertheless, I have a wobbly right reel on my SBJ and its motor is also much noisier than the other two reels. Regarding the reel noise, I saw Arby's post on this and it sounds a bit more technical than I am comfortable with. It seems like removing the reel assemblys in the SBJ is a bit of work and it doesn't bother me enough to go to this length. If anybody has a simpler suggestion I'd happily consider it, if not I'll deal.

My main question is more geared toward the wobble factor...how is the hair dryer trick on the reel applied? Any assistance on this would be appreciated. Not looking to melt anything!

Hope everybody's well and has a great Turkey Day!

A real easy fix is calling Milt and see if he has a replacement reel and just swap it out. He is selling all parts for $9.95 plus shipping. Its worth the 10 plus dollars and that will take care of the noise too!!
    Good luck

Just use your noggin. If it's to the right in a particular place then heat the closest spoke while forcing the reel left. The spoke will start to change colors...get cloudy when it's hot. Just remove the heat, hold for 30 seconds and it should stay where you want. I even used a torch lighter (like the crack heads use) on the middle reel...I held it 1" away until the cloudiness appeared the removed the heat. My SBJ is 99% perfect now and that's good enough for me.

Thanks for the suggestions! I will try the hair dryer trick first and depending on the level of success I may call Milt. I'm not afraid to think but I know these things are delicate and wanted to draw from some experience before doing something that may be irreversible.

You were smart to ask first before doing something that could mess things up irrevocably, and that's what the forums are for. As Dattia says above, let us know the results!

If you destroy your reel I have a replacement without the strip, you will need to put your own strip in. No charge just pay shipping.
There we have your back go for it!

I was not really trying to get this on track, out of the weeds down in the ditch. I just received 3 reels for my JSR and willing to help a member out.
back to the regularly scheduled side trip.

Thanks guys! Got it sorted out. This was the first time taking the reel assembly out of either of my machines so now that I've done it once it's really not a big deal but yanking the assembly out of the SBJ appears to be more of a chore than it would have been on my Speed Racer machine. Nevertheless, the hair dryer and a little pressure got the wobble all sorted out so I won't need the back-up reel but thanks for the offer Mike!

I might go ahead and get the heat gun out and try this first is sounds easier that re-glueing on reel strips. It is nice to have a plan B, just in case. if it works I might make a funky lamp shape out of the reels.
