Willie's latest computer problem

He still has his old computer. His nephew was hooking it up as he was leaving for work, so he'll be back online this evening.

the fan is running, but it is the power supply, it heats up and then shuts off computer. I been running it for 24 hrs a day.

I shut down last night and I'm running it with the side covers off for now.

Well he shouldn't really need to be dismantling it - I thought it was a new one!!

and if he is still having problems - and worried about it - it should go straight back to be replaced........

Oh no, he won't be dismanteling it at all! It will either be taken back to Wal-Mart, or sent back to HP. Whichever will be the quicker.

We seen this often with Gateway E4600, the power supply fans gave out. The power button light went from green to orange and it shut down. The E3400 series had capacitors that would swell and rupture on the motherboard, gave all sorts of funky errors before they eventually died.
IBM E series had weak Power supplies as well the fans were OK but they would still fail. Usually the Taiwan made power supplies were at fault. the replacements came from China.

It's just with my luck with Electrical items lately - I wonder whether Quality Control is one of the things these companies are cutting back on........

It seems almost everything I buy these days - either doesn't work as soon as I get it home or it breaks down within a few months.......

I hope Willie's Computer is sorted quickly for him.......

Here's hoping there is a fast solution, but a good one as well.
I know his computer had problems, even though it was new... but a swap for new might be better than a refurb that HP would probably send him.

I'd hate to see him end up with someone else's problem.

I would take back to a Walmart that has them in stock if within a feasible drive distance. This way he will recieve a new unit not a refurb.
Some models are made with a bad mix of parts. like a 73 Pintos gas tank. there is a chance the machine has a ECO on the hard drive. If I had the exact model # I can lookup the PC on the HP repair site and see if there are known issues with it (ECO's any way) We are an HP certified repair site. Self maintainer contract anyway.
I will be gone next week in the woods of the UP. so you all will get a break from my ramblings.

I just got a MAC cube with monitor keyboard and mouse for $200 on Craigslist it was in perfect condition no scratches!
There are many other MACs that I saw in the $200-$300 price range. Just a thought.

Well, here is the latest on my PC problems.... Yesterday I called no fewer than 10 Wal-Marts and not one of them had the machine I need.

I called HP back (they were supposed to call me and didn't) The person I talked to checked on my progress for this machine. I find out now, that since my machine "passed" the hd tests, one of which said it would take up to 90 minutes...(took less than 2 seconds) they won't send me a HD until they try other things first. So now I have to find someone to hook up my machine again and wait for HP to send me recovery disks in the mail, before we can try the next step, which is a manufacturer's restore. This won't happen until WEDNESDAY at best. So I can count on being without the new machine for some time yet. I am very disheartened with HP right now.

Well actually, on second thoughts - yes I can - and it's downright shameful.......

I wish there was a way I could help you deal with these money grabbing uncaring morons!

Maybe we could all write letters to the MD's of these two Companies and tell them how exactly how they should resolve this......

Yes, take it back and get your money. Go to Best Buy, at least they have people on site to work on something if it goes down and they can send people to your home too.

There is no reason why you should suffer because they can't send out a quality product.

That's exactly what I have decided to do. I'm not sure what I'm going to do to get another one. I applied for a Wal-Mart credit card to get this one with intrest free financing for 6 months. Who knows, I'll try to figure something out.

Well, as I said, I have decided to return the HP computer. Tomorrow I will be taking it back to Wal-mart for a full refund. After returning from Wal-mart, I will place a call to HP and let them know I have resolved my issues with their computer. IF they ask me how, I will be more than happy to let them know, that I returned it, and purchased a DELL!!

Hi all. Another update on my computer dealings: This morning I took the HP back to Wal-Mart. The Manager at the returns desk asked me how I wanted the refund credited. I told him to put $625 on my Wal-Mart credit card (that is how much credit I got when I applied for the card) and to put the rest back in my bank account. He asked for both cards, and I told him that I haven't received my Wal-Mart card yet, and he said he couldn't put the $625 on that account without the card; so he'd have to put it all in my account. I asked him if I still had 6 months to pay the balance off on that card with no interest, and he said "absolutely sir" It was any easy decision for me at that point......Do I pay the Wal-Mart card off when I get the statement, or pay the Dell off with that money and make payments on the Wal-Mart card?? Lets see, Wal-Mart 0% interest for 6 months, or Dell financing 21+% interest???

Thank you Wal-Mart, for lending your money at no interest so I could get a Dell.
