    Default My Pachinko Cabinet

I just thought you might be interested to see the finished pics of my 'cabinet'.

I actually bought it in the UK from 777Heaven and after painting it, I think it looks quite good.

    All the best

That looks great Painted up Jon!

Ours is yet to be painted - as we haven't decided whether or not to use this cabinet for the Star Wars or perhaps make a slimmer model, and use this cabinet for a different machine maybe?

Hope you got your Star Wars sorted and are enjoying playing it!

I read all about painting MDF on Google and learned that if you want a 'glass smooth' finish, you need to use special paints and perhaps even spray it.

So, i was going to get some MDF primer and then use my Compressor/Spray Gun and some cellulose paints.. Bu then I figured that it was a lot of work/mess and at the end of the day, do you really need a flat finish.

So, in the end I just used some paint I had lying around from when I built my games room.. First I used normal waterbased undercoat/primer diluted to approx 70% paint, 30% water to prime the MDF (taking special care to get the edges to 'suck' as much paint as possible)

I then gave it two more coats of undercoat at 100%.. Finally, I gave it 3 coats of waterbased gloss.

From what I have read, with MDF its better to put more coats of Undercoat on, as this 'creates' the finish.. The gloss just finishes the whole things off.

I used a roller to do this, and whilst this doesn't gave as smooth a finish, I like it because its slightly 'stippled' and there is no danger of brush strokes.

Before you start, take a little time with a sander.. Whilst the cabinet is OK, its a bit crude and some of the surfaces (especially the ones at the front) show their 'saw marks'.. Also some of the joints where a little out of line.. So, using an Electric sander, I got the whole thing more square, the edges smoother and also rounded off the front a little. Then get as much of the dust out and slap on the paint.

Good luck.. Let me know if you have any questions

    Jon

PS. Oh yes.. There are 4 screws at the top, which they had attempted to fill, but not very well.. I dug out the filler and used some of my own, which I then sanded flat..

Bascially, like all jobs, time spent BEFORE painting will improve the finish no-end...

    Hi Jon,

To be honest, I don't know.. I got it as a 'package deal' with all my machines.. Steve quoted £40 for it, but I think that I ended up paying £20 in the end..

I don't know how much it would cost on its own..

    All the best

Very nicely done. I like the deeper shelf on the bottom. Matches your unit well.
