dam Wayne been having fun i see ...... Thought we hashed all this out last winter ....... the problem is with the temp. extremes that damaged the diode housings every time you turn the machine on and off you cause them to heat and cool progressing the damage hence more LEDs out .... this is an inherent problem with the elcos the only way to stall the problem is to either not turn the machine on (not an option ) or not turn it off (a possible option one i use and my machine has lost only 2 LEDs in a year but it will eventually lose more ). just change the whole lot and be done with it already.......

There you go.. All 3 reels done and its looking VERY good..

Whilst this has been covered in length a long time ago, I am sure that there is a completely new 'generation' of owners who will enounter this problem...

So, if you have any questions about this, please do not hestiate to ask.

    All the best

Good job! It looks like they're very close matches to the one we used, perhaps a little brighter and bluer, but it's hard to tell from a photograph. The viewing angle is much the same.

The only ill effect I have noticed is that before, when the Red 7s flashed by, the LEDs behind appeared to be a deep red colour.

Now they are much lighter, but this is only noticable when they are spinning.

I think that this is due to the fact that its now a 'pure' white LED, where as before it the light contained Red, Green and Blue light frequencies. So when the red of the 7 flashed by, it blocked the red colour and allowed the Green and Blue to pass through.

As you said in one of your earlier posts.. if you compare them side by side, then the difference is obvious, but if you replace them all, there is no way of telling the difference.

Many thanks for all your help with this, its very much appreciated.

I have now offered to do my suppliers broken boards for him.. I am not sure how many he had, but he implied that they have several machines which have broken LED boards.. I don't know what I am getting myself in for, as he may have 100s for all I know... But its something to do I guess, and perhaps I might end up with something for my trouble

    All the best

I realise that people can do a search, but I have been documenting this in order to put a 'UK' slant on it.. There are an increasing number of owners in the UK and I wanted the info that I have posted (specifically about the UK supplier of the LEDs) to be available for anyone who wanted it.

    Cheers

I think there should be a new post that details the problem and the fix.
With links and part numbers for US and UK people.
Maybe it should be a sticky ?

The current search on this subject brings up the information needed but its hard to find among the long posts and multiple page long threads.

(Ask Mark if you don't believe me.)

    Great Idea!
I have a Sindbad and a Fireworks that I know that I'll have to do this fix on in the future. The Elco Machines all seem to be comming up with the LED burn out/ cracked lense.
The Reel removal post by azlew Would be a good first post with the some of the posts in these threads:for fixing your LEDs . http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/show...highlight=leds If you need any help PM me.http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/show...highlight=leds

I havn't gone through all of them but I think that when I need to change the LEDs that I will go with th 2000 to 3000 white LEDs with the wide angle view and replace all 18 of them on the machine.
Now I need to look up which posts will tell how to bend the 4 pin to go into the 6 pin holes and what resisters to remove from the board.
I know that Websherpa and jweaver have done a lot of work on finding the right fix for the LEDs and a lot of help from others but a shorter thread with the fix outlined and pictured would help when some of us try to do this fix.

    Just to summarise:

    1. Remove R2, 4 and 6.. You can just cut the legs, but if you are like me and obsessive, you can de-solder/remove the 'stumps' too.

    2. Bending the pins isn't anything which needs documenting.. Once you see the new LEDs and the holes they go in, its obvious what you have to do.. You simply squeeze the legs towards each other by approx 1mm, fit them in the hole and PUSH until the legs go in as far as they can.

When I did mine, I didn't remove all 3 reels at the same time (as described in the post), I simply removed the 2 screws for each reel (you need a stubby screwdriver for the top one) and did them one at a time.

Thats all I can think of for now, but if someone is upto the job of writing an FAQ, I can add the bits relevant to the UK market!

    Here is the latest update.
I ordered the LED units on July 17th from www.phenoptix.com . Their post office sent it on July 19. The good ole (worthless) USPS got it here TODAY! Aug 2nd.
Meanwhile, I e-mailed Ben at Phenoptix and they instantly sent a replacement order on July 30th. They took my word for it that the package was indeed lost.
Ben and his Mum are NICE PEOPLE! I E-Mailed Ben and told him the payment for the second package are already sent to him VIA Paypal, explained that the crummy USPS here in the USA was not his fault and therefore I will gladly pay for the second package. Were not talking BIG BUCKS here, but the fact they trusted me, a first time customer at face value.
Trust me on this one, This company is small, but a VERY good one. Great prices, nice people and a great product.
Pictures of the replacement units in a few days.
    Thanks for listening!
