    Default Another cabinet design

Well, the boss was happy with my paint job on the baby's room and the game room so she gave me the green light to get the Pink Panther machine in a cabinet and on the wall.

Here is the fruit of my labor. More pics and downloadable plans available here: www.dc8.org/pachinkocab

Especially cool is the manually operated slide gate to keep the balls from draining out of the upper hopper when the machine is opened:

So far the family loves it. Everyone seems to like the full width ball catch tray at the bottom. Lots of hands can reach in and help reload the balls.

Special thanks to Syph, MrGneiss, and Tulsa for posting their ideas, photos and opinions about what makes a good cabinet! (especially Syph for the French Cleat idea... a wonderful way to hang a machine)

Good job, Ken. The slide gate seems to answer the question of how to open the door and not let loose all the spheres.

I am amazed at how well it works. I filled up the machine's hopper and tube, slid the gate closed, opened the machine and didn't lose *one* ball. I figured a few would tumble out.

The gadget was simple to make. I included the dimensions on the PDF plans that can be downloaded from the link posted above.

    Nice Job!

I just built one last week have yet to post any pics but will once I finish paint and what not...

I like the wooden topper to stop balls from getting out of the hopper but what is the purpose of having a open/close gate? To handle that same issue I cheated by using a cardboard guide but yours looks more professional.

Since I used a rubber drain for my top funnel rather than PVC I can't attach a cool wooden lid like that... hmmmm.... perhaps a MOD is in the making
    Congrats well done!

The sliding gate keeps any balls that are in the PVC pipe or upper hopper on the cabinet from falling behind the machine if I swing the machine open for maintenance. The wooden gate is normally open to allow the flow of balls from the top down the PVC and into the machine's hopper.

Also, I just posted a video of the machine and cab in action:

nice ......the ball hopper problem when opening the door is something I hadn't thought about in my design......however, as I am planning on putting 3 cabs side by side I couldn't use it anyhow.....hmmmm have to think of something else.....

I see... I've been simply emptying the balls when needed when I move the machine or need to do work. That's pretty ingenious...

I'll have to put some thought into that one. Maybe some sort of actuator coming up throught the upper hopper.

I'm building a second cabinet for a vintage fixer-upper I EBayed. It's going to be next to the Pink Panther, but spaced 16" to the next set of wall studs.
