Default The Zen of the Nails.

The Big Shooter and Double Wing games are similar in concept and both are fun to play. They make a nice contrast to the usual spin the reels and watch videos game.

That said, I give the edge to the Double Wing machine as it is the more polished game of the two and the theme is very straight forward. The sounds especially are superior. The Big Shooter sounds are very simplistic and almost 8-Bit in nature, very retro and charming though.

The Maturi games are also enjoyable as they are different again in their gameplay look and feel. Their striking case and cell playfield art really make them stand out at parties.

On the whole, it is too bad that there are not more wing type and Arrepachi games available!

When I have company playing my machines, once they get past the oohs and aahs of the videos they gravitate to the wing type and Arrepachi games. People are facinated by the mechanical workings of these machines. These machines make great wall art. Everyone is drawn to them.

I have noticed that with new company who haven't seen these machines before, they are more apt to try and play the more familiar slots. Yet they will stand facinated and watch me play the Pachinkos for what seems like hours but they seem intimidated or afraid to try and play them. When they do play them, they seem confused by the lack of control as they seem to be expecting a pinball machine.

My own enjoyment really starts to take off when I get into the Zen of the game. It is contradictory that such a complex machine with such distracting elements such as the myriad of sounds and lights can be very soothing when your attention is unfocused and yet everywhere all at the same time. The whole experience is such an in-your-face thing on the surface yet so very subtle on a number of levels, all at the same time.

That said, it is all in the nails! The more nails the better! The newer bells and whistle machines have forgotten that by replacing their nails with more brick-a-brack!

When I feel the need for a change, I'll tweak a few nails and it becomes a different experience. I haven't found a way to change a video yet without aquiring another Pachinko to play.

Don't get me wrong, I'll always have both types of games in my house. Variety is the spice of life.

Thanks, dp, enjoyed your thoughts. I get pleasure out of tweaking a few nails on my machines and watching them play oh so slightly differently, too. Cool.

I take it, nail clippers aren't a very good idea though?

As an owner of Big Shooter, I agree. When my brother first saw this machine in jackpot mode, he started laughing! It is very simple though, but I like the old school feel of it. My only problem with it is the nails seem very sensitive. It is hard to find a balance between opening the wings every 10 balls and getting too many jackpots, and never getting a ball into the start pocket. I have been trying to make it so that you activate the wings regularly enough to keep it interesting. I then try to make it so that the balls will not always be in the vicinity of the wings when they open. Can anyone describe the scientific process of nail adjustment to me? So that I can be more successful at this? Also on a machine like big shooter, how frequently should the wings be opening, and how many jackpot rounds would be normal in japan? Check out the case I made for Big shooter in the Pachinko toolkit thread. Thanks!

Thanks for the link. My biggest problem as a newbie was calling them pins. I couldn't find anything in the searches on 'adjusting pins' that really helps. So far I have really screwed up the play, but it is slowly doing what I want it to do!

I can't say I've personally ever received a game where the whole board is out of wack. If anything, I would use a nail bending tool to just slightly bend the center pocket pins out slightly to reduce the time needed to reach a fever.

If you want it to go back to stock, you'll need the service manual to know what stock positioning is or alternatively, pursue trial and error based on your objective. I've attached an image for reference on what service manuals provide for pin configuration.

In your chart, what are the measurements specifically relating to?
are the X and Y numbers distances between the two pins?
What's the third column?

There are 3 values per number indicated by 2 pins being black. but it does look a bit confusing.
I guess there is something on the cell to indicate where to measure from.
2 and 3 probably indicate the size of the gaps in the nail slope. with a distance between them.

There is also another chart that shows the angle of incline of each nail.

I think the third column is the distance between X and Y

Ding ding ding! Drunkenclam is spot on! There’s 4-5 pages dedicated to this topic in each manual. I pasted an example of what’s there for some additional context. Will circle back and share the whole bit soon.
