Default how to remove tar stains from plastic?

I presume that the brownish stains on the plastic are from cigarette tar.

has anyone tried peroxide? I read about retr0bright, but that was for the discoloration that occurs with the plastic aging.

    would bleach work?

what do they use on teeth?

guess this would be useful for the stains on a white shooter knob on a modern machine, too.

For plastic parts I always start with a nice hot soapy bath and a scrub brush. I like using Dawn dish soap because it help cut through the greasy grime. After the parts are dry I use Novis on them. This has alsway gotten all my parts nice and shiny. Cigarette burns were the plastic has melted is a whole diffent ball of plastic.

    Features & Benefits:
This versatile cleaner and degreaser is effective on a wide variety of surfaces. The concentrated formula penetrates grease, oil and dirt on contact, then it creates a barrier between the stain and the surface. in just seconds you can wipe away even the toughest stains.

    IT EATS CIGARETTE TAR ! ! !

Spray it on and let it sit for 5 minutes and then scrub with a cotton cloth or dish sponge with a green pad on it with the same product on it.

Then I Novis the rest (if any) out.

Windex seems to work for most Cigarette tar stains just fine. If it does not work alone I use a bath of straight simple green then wash with water then retry the Windex and finally use Novus 2
I still havent tried retrobright but I think that would help a lot.

I use the Purple Power since NIT told me about it. It works great. I've had no problems with it discoloring any plastics. Any tar comes right off with one wipe.

I know nothing about cleaning a pachi to the great std's as our other members

but i know that wd-40 is one of the best cleaners on the market.. that being said i would be very very carefull using it on a pachi.. it will always leave a resadue on everything that will actualy attract dirt and dust.. if a ball roles threw that resadue it will track it everywhere... inside and on the cell

i would say not the best choice but if u do use it make sure u clean it again afterwards.. so clean it twice??? i cant make myself do it once

    jsut my 2 cents

I couldn't agree more. WD-40 leaves residue that can be difficult to remove completely, particularly if it gets into the hard to reach areas. If I were to use it I would probably apply it with a Q-Tip only.

That being said, I have often thought of WD-40 for removing tar but have not tried it. My beloved Gel Gloss always does the trick for me. The only blemishes that remain are where the plastic is burnt/melted from direct contact from a careless smoker' burning cig. In that situation I use the #000 steel wool or, in severe cases, a small metal "pick" tool that I have. The pick has a small pointed sharp edge that I can use to gently scrape away the discolored plastic area so that the color will blend with the rest of the plastic. I then polish it up with steel wool and Gel Gloss so that it is barely noticable to anyone other than me.

Thanks to Mudfud for posting this thread! This a great topic and I have picked up a few ideas and tricks that I can use when restoring my Pachis.

Smoke and tar residue? 409 works fine, plus you can use it for the house too.

Just an FYI but steel wool also comes in 0000 grade. It's what I use for the final polish on chrome parts.
