Default Nice collection in a real museum

From "The Japan Times" - Saturday August 20, 2005 -

An article about a gentleman that has collected 148 pachinko machines, 141 of which are his own personal items.
    (No... his name isn't Arbycoffee)

Very interesting reading, and worth the view.
Heck... might even be worth the trip there to check it out!!!
    ROAD TRIP!!!

Enjoy! Click here for the article.

"If casinos or other gambling are openly allowed in Japan, pachinko may lose its popularity," Makino said.

If casinos were allowed to open up in Japan do you think they would still contain pachinko and pachislot machines or do you think they would convert to US like slots? Would the Japanese casinos basically be just pachi parlors with table games and they would skip the middleman with buying back the prize and just reward the players with cash?

The answer actually is right here in the USA. No contest.

Yep to the pachinko/pachislo losing it's popularity.

US slots all the way if allowed.

But the Korean mafia will have a big say in what is and isn't allowed(especially as far as the middleman goes). I suppose they wil have to step up their "protection" offers if the middleman gets eliminated.

I think that if gambling was allowed in Japan they would still keep pachislos but actually payout money instead of prizes. It seems like pachinko and pachislot is just too much of japanese culture to just eliminate them for a more americanized machine.

With pachinko/pachislo the largest industry in Japan, I wouldn't figure they would do away with them. With pachi, the Japanese are used to games being games of 'skill'. Slots in the US are supposed to be pure chance. I assume that card games will be very popular. More ability for 'skill' to come into play.

The other article posted elsewhere in this forum seemed to indicate that the only reason pachis are so big is because it is gambling (even though gambling is officially illegal in Japan it is the closest thing to it). If another industry came about that offered the same or better payoffs with immediate gratification instead of having to sneek around the corner to get paid, my opinion is that the pachis would lose their popularity. More for us then!!

Hey I am free as a bird and would have no problem making a picture taking, video taking tour of as many parlours and pachinko/pachislo museums as possible.
Get a group of people together and lets do it

After reading OCPACHINKO'S FANTASTIC Trip Report here :

    http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7622

to this museum, I decided to spend a few hours searching for more pics and info on this great museum! Here is what I came up with :

    http://homepage2.nifty.com/ueno-p-museum/museum.html

    Google Translated(Poorly as usual) :

    http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fhomepage2.nifty.com%2Fueno-p-museum%2Fmuseum.html&langpair=ja%7Cen&hl=en&safe=off&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools

The above url brings to us the actual map as to where it is located plus some pics of what is on display + a list of what machines are in the museum.

    http://homepage2.nifty.com/ueno-p-museum/picture_book.html

    Google Translated :

    http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fhomepage2.nifty.com%2Fueno-p-museum%2Fpicture_book.html&langpair=ja%7Cen&hl=en&safe=off&i e=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools

The above url mentions a "picture book" that I think is out of print ?

    http://homepage2.nifty.com/ueno-p-museum/mail-order.html

    Google Translated :

    http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fhomepage2.nifty.com%2Fueno-p-museum%2Fmail-order.html&langpair=ja%7Cen&hl=en&safe=off&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools

The above url has some information on buying these machines?

    http://www1.ttcn.ne.jp/~vl2k/haku.html

    Google Translated :

    http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww1.ttcn.ne.jp%2F%7Evl2k%2Fhaku.ht ml&langpair=ja%7Cen&hl=en&safe=off&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools

The above url is the best one ! It shows more pictures a history chart etc. It also mentions that they primarily just show the cells of these antiques but they also have an area of machines set up to play (4 of them) for 500 yen?

Finally this url will lead to other areas about it :

    http://www1.ttcn.ne.jp/~vl2k/index.html

I personally feel that this is (like OCPACHINKO points out) a must see whenever I get to Japan.

    Good detective work, Captain Lew.

I'm sure I've walked around that area hundreds of times, why didn't I see/check it out?

    Azlew,

Yep, that's it! You made an INCREDIBLE find...I hunted for those pages before the trip with no success, but again you've come through!

I didn't see that book for sale...but of course, I didn't have the printout to gesture to...

In that situation you could have said "book, kudasai".
