Default Sankyo Egyptian (Egyptian Fever) no longer shooting balls

Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum and found about it while trying to figure out what's wrong with my Sankyo Egyptian (Egyptian Fever) pachinko machine.

A few years back, a friend was playing on the machine when the shooter stopped working.

When I plug the machine in, the machine lights up and if I place balls into various bonus buckets in the playing field, the machine will react (play sounds, the digital slot machine does its thing, balls will be deposited into the player's win bucket). However, turning the shooter knob (making sure I touch the metal ring for ground) does result in balls that I've loaded into the staging area to shoot. There appears to be a hammer that would hit the balls up the ramp, but the hammer isn't doing anything.

    A few things to note:
    1. There's a "5" showing on the LED display in the rear (pic attached).
    2. I noticed a red lighted "X" on the playing field, but that goes away when I start placing balls into the bonus buckets. (pic attached)
    3. There appears to be a button on the rear (I've attached a pic) but I pressed it (while the machine powers up and after the machine is powered up) and nothing seemed to happen.
    4. I also see three black knobs that appears to be fuse housings but I haven't figure out how to twist them off yet. (pic attached)
    5. I also have attached pictures of the hammer mechanism (viewed from front of the machine and rear of the machine).

Any ideas what the problem and fix is? Thanks!

    Welcome Aboard

First check the 1A fuse on the dongle board and make sure the dongle is fully inserted. Pull it out and back in again. It should resemble an old fashioned 25 pin printer connection.

Sometimes error 5 means there is a fault with the main control board. You may have to to a reset of you machine.

Usually there is a small red button to depress around the on/off switch, or on the main board that needs to be pressed when the machine is turned on.
Don't have that particular machine, so I can't say for sure where the reset button might be.

Hello Sam and welcome to the group!

Some good advice from the others above. Also here is a general guide that may be of help later on.

Thanks! I checked all three fuses (1A, 4A, and 7A) and they are still good. I wasn't able to find a dongle that I could pull out and back in. However, I did find a board with a printer-like port (attaching pic). That board appears to be attached to the rest of the unit with screws.

Thanks! I looked for a small red button (reset) and the on/off switch and couldn't find either. When I plug in the machine, the machine turns on. I'd think there'd be an on/off, but I've traced the power line through the transformer and into one of the boards. Perhaps I'm overlooking something. There is a blue button that doesn't seem to do anything, however.
I've also found a three position switch which I believe is for volume (there are kanji characters for "small", "medium", and "large" that I believe correspond to volume).

I'm attaching a close up of the blue button and a picture of the read that I marked up.

Here are a few styles of the dongle that would connect to the port in your picture. I don't know if there is a way to bypass it on your machine.

Yes. Some machines had their circuit boards modified (or blobbed) to by-pass the need for a dongle. Its impossible to tell from the pictures as the mod is so small. As you say it worked before. Has the 25pin port always been empty (100% sure) or is it possible it could have fallen out and got lost.

Perhaps I did lose the dongle? It seems so small and looks like a lot of other electronic components I have in my house that I may have not realized what it was. I'll check the forum for models and prices, but what does the dongle do?

    Thanks!

It makes the machine think it connected to the parlour CR systems. But in short, Its a simple circuit that sends power to an optocoupler on the machine that enables the shooter. The Blob modification shorts out or by-passes the optocoupler

    See Daverobs page about dongles.

Most of it is refrence material. But the important stuff (Like how to make your own) is at the bottom.

Thanks for the link! Reading through the page, it appears that I can make my own bypass by simply inserting three components directly into the D-25 connector: a diode, a capacitor, and a resistor. Any tips on how to ensure that the components stay inserted into the D-25 connector?

The parts should stay on their own, but you would probably be better served by purchasing the mating side of the connector in question, and soldering the parts into that, basically building the dongle.

One of these days, I'll get the parts together and build a copy of the dongle we have in the back of Yamato here, just so that we have a spare in case it becomes disconnected and lost.

If you want to simulate the parlor feel get a Dave Rob card reader and emulator. I have them on all my machines as they make the small LCD and buttons work. And you just plug them in and they work.

I have a machine where that was done by someone before me. After inserting the 3 components, they gooped it up with silicone. Since I had a Daverob dongle, I cut the silicone, and pulled out the parts. The rest of the silicone peeled off easily.

I have seen some silicone sealents conduct electricity. SO I would advise against it.

If you know how to solder you can make it with one of these https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00066HS4E
