    Default coin mech and sensor

Hi all, just two quick questions and need help. I am a strong believer of the saying: give a man a fish and he will eat for the day, but teach the man how to fish he can eat for a life-time... On that note, can anyone tell me how to check a sensor for working or not and the coil or (electromagnet) on a coin mech. for being ok. thanks VINVINSLOT

a steady hand and a good volt meter.

Testing depends on the type of sensor. some are 3 pins some are 4, some more, Some don't like to work in daylight conditions and only work in dark enviroments. Some are photo reflective interrupters, some are slotted transmissive type.
But in the end it is all a switch, they will either send 5v when they detect something, or stop sending 5v when they detect something. (Not always 5V as well. Might be 3V)

It is why there is no definitive way of testing them. If you can find the model number on the side, you can look up the data table to see the pin allocations.

But here is an example of a slotted one

    Pin 1 Anode
    Pin 2 Cathode
    Pin 3 Emitter Anode
    Pin 4 Collector Cathode

And a reflective one. The pins are completely different on this one

    Pin 1 Collector
    Pin 2 Emitter
    Pin 3 Anode
    Pin 4 Cathode
