Default Arrrrrr Matey, it be the Pirates of the Caribbean for me!!

Although probably one of my greatest love's is Pachinko, I also quite like pinball too, but it looked like I wouldn't be adding to the pinball collection for the time being, due to space and lack of a toy budget lately.

So it was all a bit of a whirl of excitement when I spotted a little pinball for sale the other day, I knew straight away it was a Zizzle, although the Seller didn't seem to know what it was I made enquiries and an offer he couldn't refuse, and the very next day I was helping unpack and assemble a little Zizzle Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Mans Chest pinball!!

I have been on the look out for one of these little 3/4 size machines for a while now, they are not so easy to find in the UK, and probably harder to source now that Zizzle.com are no longer around.

Anyway, here's a pic of the pinball temporarily set up in the hallway, whilst we sort a few things with it.

Whilst test playing the Pinball, we soon realised that one of the targets was not registering a hit, 'Cannibal Island' a target about half way up the playfield on the left hand side. This target is directly opposite, across the playfield, from where the ball exits the shooter lane, and so it does get a lot of hits.

So realising investigative surgery was required, we proceeded to remove the retaining rails holding the glass in place, so we could take out the 'glass' and gain access to the playfield.

Manually using a pinball to check each target and all the roll over switches etc, it seemed everything else was registering perfectly, so just that one target to sort.

I supervised whilst the back / base of the pinball was removed it was just a case of bending a metal contact a little and the target was back to full operation!! yay!!

Whilst the glass was out, we took the opportunity to clean the playfield and ramps etc

Also whilst in there we took a close look at the 'rubbers' on the flippers, they were very thin and not the usual ones used for pinball, so we thought we'd replace those with a set of red ones we have in stock from our other pinballs.

The red ones are thicker and look really nice, and seem to give a bit more 'bounce'. The proof would obviously be in the testing.

So the pinball was reassembled, unfortunately it took a bit longer because as soon as the legs and glass were back on, we realised we had forgotten to put the pinball back inside

Anyway, for those of you that like pics, here's a few showing the underneath 'workings' and the playfield without the glass etc. And not forgetting a pic of those flippers sporting their nice new red 'rubbers'

At the moment, I'm not totally convinced that it needs a small bumper like that, I am aware that one of the biggest complaints about the Zizzles is the gap between the flippers.

Bearing in mind, I've only had this one for a couple of days, I have been managing fine with the flipper arrangement. I think the fact that it is smaller and lighter than a regular pinball means you can do a little creative 'tilting' to help persuade the ball to stay in play. Obviously not too much tilt as the game would be over, but just enough to gently persuade the path of the ball.

I've always had a problem with using 'Tilt' on regular pinballs, I'm not one of those muscley females, and I struggle as the 2 normal pins in the house are PB2000 and huge and heavy, but I can manage 'tilting' on the zizzle.

Obviously if the children start to complain about it, or we think it may help enjoyment, then we would install the small round bumper peg.

btw I am interested to hear if anyone here has done any little mods to these little pins??

We are thinking of maybe installing a couple of mods, maybe an interactive topper, some POTC toy figures etc, also the speaker system isn't stereo, although there are 2 speaker grills, so that could do with some upgrading, and maybe the back box could be made deeper...and...and...

But we'll see how it goes

We have actually bought 2 lots of figures from ebay, but not decided whether to go ahead yet with using them

the Davey Jones & Jack Sparrow characters would be a great addition, although a little tall to fit under the glass if standing,

    Still thinking about it though
