Its like pachinko bingo you put in a tocken for 16 pachinko balls but the pachinko balls are never touched. You use and win tokens through out the game. when i looked this up very few results came up i was fourtnate enough to find a 3 part video explaing what arepachi is:

There are many Arepachi threads in the vintage forum here..and even an arepachi club on PT too I believe..In fact those are PT members videos!!

Arepachis are harder to find and are sought after by many people here because they are so cool!!

I know I really badly want one. They are very hard to come by and when you find one it is just too far away.

    100 machines and counting...

That's a link to one of my arepachi videos and all the rest of my arepachis are on there as well.
I've also chronicled the completed restoration on here of two of my Taiyos via several threads.

Craigslist, Yahoo Japan Auction, and eBay. They come up very rarely and if you have an aversion to shipping then your chances of obtaining one go down more. I say that since the majority come up on Craigs list so you have to get the seller to ship to you- this translates into more money spent both from shipping fees and having to sweeten the deal. You can't nickel and dime when there are collectors local to the seller that are willing to buy. eBay very rarely has them for sale but at least the seller I'd probably going to ship. YJA also has them a few times a year but the price will be doubled by the time that auction is over due to proxy bidder fees and overseas shipping. However, it's where most of the best arepachis (also called arrange balls or challenge balls) have come from.

Anywhere from 50 bucks to over a thousand. In the last couple of years o eBay the average price has probably been 250-300 or so. On YJA probably around 600-800 including shipping but frequently much more. The cheapest I've paid was 60 and that was on CL but that was also before the popularity of aggregate search engines for CL. Now it's easy for anyone anywhere to see all items of a particular type for sale nation wide. So the seller gets many offers. Almost like an auction.
The last one I bought was well below the max that the seller said he was offered from all over (or so he claimed) but he absolutely did not want to ship so I went and picked it up. Interestingly, he mentioned that due tithe number of offers received. almost put it on eBay since he had no idea people collect them and he wanted to know if I was going to turn around and try to sell it fo more on eBay. I mentioned it was likely but not anytime soon.
Point is, there's a wide price range dependent on several factors that have to do with how and where the machine is being sold as much as the quality of the machine itself and the number of offers the seller receives. Sometimes they stick to an early deal they made but then break it as more money is put up by buyers. It can be frustrating but it's business.
