Default Looking for Advise/Info on a Bally's Slot

    Hello,
Just got a good deal on Craig's List for a Bally's slot machine. Wondering if anyone can advise me on tuning up the game and getting it running? Power works, but the reals don't seem to lock into place. Also, on the payout system there appears to be a fuse missing...What kind would I need? Any Cleaning advise?
This is my first American Slot, so please keep that in mind!
    Thanks,
    John

I got a small bucket full...Maybe 100 or so from a local casino. They are real dirty, so I'm going to have to do some scrubbing!

I have uploaded a video to show how the reels are not locking into place. The second half of the video, I had the reels going, turned off the machine and turned it back on. Hopefully this tells me that there is power to the springs that stop the reels?

    Hi Millermaster,

Can you slide out the reel mech and take some pictures? Basically, if it's a mechanical mechinism, this is what you want to look for...

on the left hand side (while facing the front of the reels) there will be a clock mechanism with a four bladed fan. When the handle is pulled, this clock is wound up. when the reels are released, the clock will start to spin. You will see three stop arms in the back of the reels, when you pull the handle, these arms will move back. when the clock winds down, it will trigger mechanically each arm to stop.

If this is a mechanical style reel mech, that is what you should see.

Make sure the clock is spinning. it may be filthy/corroded (like the hopper base) and need a cleaning. After seeing the video, I notice that the reels are free spinning and slow down naturally (no motors involved). that would be a direct indication that the clock is stuck. Make sure there are no wire harnesses inside the cabinet that are stopping the fan...that will stop the clock.

Also, With a Mechanical mech, you can cycle the mech outside the cabinet. It can be tough though. on the left side, there would be a slide piston running from front to back. you will need to trigger the release (like a coin or credit was added) and push the slide arm back...like I said, it can be hard to do.

Please take more pics of the mech so I can get a look at what type of mech it is.

    Thank You.

Can you tell me more about what the fan or clock should look like? How their movements work (video?)?
Attached are photo's of where the reels attach to the side arm and some photos of the backside/side of the reels.

The three photos show what i can see with your mech and is the same with most Early Bally machines. The clock (not pictured) is on the left side of the mech. It's possible that this machine does not have a mechanical clock, but rather is "stopped" by something in the circuit boards. It's hard to tell from the pictures and not being there to actually see the machine.

Picture one is really just for the handle. A solenoid (1) fires after a coin is added and presses a trigger (2). The trigger presses a release (3) for the handle so you can pull it down. You can also do this manually by just pressing the release with your finger.

Picture 2 shows one of the stop arms (reel 1). after an amount of time...this stop arm comes forward and locks into the reel stop reel. Each reel will have both a stop arm and a stop reel. Usually the stop reels have different depth stops in them for different payoffs. I do not see this, they look all the same. if that is the case, then You reels must have magnetic or optic sensors on them to determine payoff. They would either be located on the circuit board in the front of the mech just below the front center of the reels, or on the inside of the reels.

picture three shows the piston I was talking about. If you try to rol that gear Counter Clockwise, it will not move. You will need to press the release in the back along the same side. It is difficult to crank that gear with your thumb...be careful...it's strong!

I cannot see a clock, it would be located on the other side of the mech (left side as your facing the front of the reels). If there is no clock, then something else (probably the circuit board) is stopping the reels.

Without a clock, first thing I would check are the sensors of the reels. If dirty, the machine is not sensing the spin, therefore, it is waiting the for the reels to spin, not knowing that they already are.

Hope this helps...I will take some pics of mine tomorrow evening.

No problem, Since your machine is similar, it will fit right into this thread and millermaster can use the info too

It appears you have an 809 series machine. With Multiple payouts, the hopper has a payout disk on the side. this disc (probably red plastic) has several rings on it. the rings are the contacts for the payout. The payout disc is far too complicated for me to explain in this post, but basically, it's falling short of making its full rotaion to pay out enouph coins. as you look at the disc, left of center you will see a stop. it looks like a pencil erasor. this can be adjusted so the disc makes a full payout rotation. It's very sensitive, and may be a little out of place. I would suggest getting this book to get it tuned. It helped out with mine.

One other thing, The stop on the payout disc sets the payout disc to ZERO. As the hopper pays out 50 coins, each coin exiting will trigger a lever, this lever rotates the disc one coin value (very little movement). When the disc contacts reach 50, the payout stops. If you consistantly get 33 coins for a 50 coin win, check to make sure the disk is returning back to the zero point. it sounds like it is not, but rather turning to a point that starts with 17. ( 50-33=17). The machine starts counting 18,19,20...
Zero point on the disc will look like all the contact fingers are at the beginning of the rings.

those circuit boards make that machine look to be an e- series.i am not sure, being an e/m guy myself, but i think the reels are stopped by solenoids, rather than a clock mechanism.you could have a problem in either the cpu or driver board.or in the wiring harness.

Yes it is a E-1000 series and each reel has a solenoid. I think if someone can help me locate what controls or activates the solenoid, I will be half way to a working slot!

Also, heck the Micro switches on the side. You can remove them, Hook them up to a volt meter with a aa battery. Check to make sure they are working. Just remember where the contacts are connected...ie, normally open, or normally closed.

mopar,i agree with young jedi in saying that your payout hopper needs some repair and adjustment.the zero stop bumpers on these 800-series machines are notorious for deteriorating to the point that the rubber they are made of gets gooey and sticky.this will cause the bumper to stick to the lever it acts upon, and will not allow the zero switch to close, which in turn will prevent the reset solenoid from resetting the payout counter on the next handle pull.if the winner paid light behind your reel glass stays on continuously during play, that would indicate that problem.this is a common problem, both of mine have it too.unfortunately, bally no longer makes these bumpers.but a slot dealer on ebay is selling something similar, but for 10 bucks apiece.another dealer said he has replaced these with actual PENCIL ERASERS,and they worked fine for him.i'll have to try that.i would also get one of the available manuals for servicing these.they are invaluable.

the pay out light goes out every time so that dosent sound like the problem hear...

i have watched the guy that repaired it and he was making sure the round thing that turns was making it all the way around.. one of the springs that pushes back after a coin advances the clock appered to be to soft.. he tightened it up and things seem to be good but now its even worse..

since the machine only has 3 diferent payouts 50 coin 100 coin and 200 coin i would think its simple but it appers thats not even close to right

i think im going to have to load it up and take it back to him... i mean really... thats what i paid for

    thanks for the input ..

now back to your regular schedualded thread.. befor i hijacked it
