Default Is it possible to overload the top tray in a pachinko?

Hi. I was recently gifted a hokuto no ken pachinko (my first machine) and came across this forum soon after. Some great info on here!

I've made some very crude mods to my machine one of which is a cardboard support/hood that inserts into the top tray and comes out over the top of the machine. This allows me to fill the top tray with about 3 times as many balls as it can normally hold.

So my question! Is this safe? I'm slightly worried I may be overloading the tray and I don't want to snap anything off. Has anyone had experience of trays snapping through overloading?

    Thanks in advance for replies!

    Cheers
    Steve

    Hello,

Can't say I've heard of anyone here snapping a top tray

and I do know a couple of members have used cardboard and other stuffs to create more capacity in the top hopper

So I would think the only problem might be if the cardboard gave way and you had the inconvenience of chasing little pachinko balls all over the floor

Hopefully other members will add their own experiences, just in case I'm wrong...

They aren't meant to hold more than about 1/2" below the top of the hopper, however, pachinko machines are overbuilt and many members here have put large hoppers on top without issue, so you shouldn't have any problem, although the older the game (early 80's on back) I personally wouldn't do it

...and of course you could always make yourself a wall mount cabinet, and incorporate a nice ball hopper thingy

Lots of ideas in the Cabinet Threads here at PT

Hehe. This has happened already the first time a hit a fever. Nothing to do with the top tray - I just got too excited and pressed the button on the front of the machine without there being a tray in position. Cue this -

Thanks for the responses. I'm definitely looking to make a cabinet - I have some spare shelves which should do the job nicely. I'll check out some of the designs on here.
    Thanks again!

Well if you are looking for a great cabinent look at the thread my first cabinent by moparformances. He built that for me and i have over 6000 balls in it and it works great. Especially like the plexiglass front. If you had any questions he is always around.

I had the same concern about cracking the tray. what machine are you working on?

there are a couple nice cabinet mods where wood walls were added from the cabinet top. you would still have the extra weight downward on the tray, but not outward on the walls... maybe build the 3 walls to enclose the plastic tray's walls and give them support if worried about the walls cracking.

An easy way to store 4000 pachinko balls on your machine!

jerry did a beautiful mod. here. very professional. these walls extend above the plastic ones.

the ones I built are boxes made from heavy (5 ply) cardboard and duct tape with ramps in the bottom and a small hole (1 inch by 2 inch) over the shallow part of the top hopper. I have a cardboard baffle around the hopper to keep strays from hopping out. most of the weight is on the frame of the pachi and even with the one that can hold 8000 balls I have never had trouble and have never seen flex or stress from my hoppers. I still would not try with a vintage but that is just me.

Could some one please explain, how parlors in Japan pay off big fever jackpots when Pachinkos have such small Hopper trays? I've searched for the answer on this forum and on the web and I can't find any info on how real Pachinko Parlors do it.

When you win a bonus, which can be a couple thousand balls, you signal the attendant (they're everywhere, plus you have an attendant call button on your machine's battle counter) and they will bring you a tray. When that is full, they place it behind you to show others how well you're doing. When you're done, you signal the attendant (crossing your pointer fingers like the poor man's Dracula repeller, but an 'X', not a cross ) and they take your trays to the ball counter. They have special carts if you've won a lot. The balls are counted and you are given a receipt. This is taken to the redemption counter where you select your prizes.

Not if they can help it! The main hoppers are in the base of each aisle with main lifters in the center of the aisle. There are crossovers between them in the event one aisle has too many or not enough. I can't imagine the issues having all that weight in the ceiling.

Go here, click the second tab in the window and it shows the systems that Sankyo makes.

What I haven't figured out is like tonight after I set up the Fever The King that is parlor ready. It has a ball lifter and I hit a fever. It's putting out so many balls that you have to constantly dump them into the bottom tray. But as soon as you do that you can't shoot balls. So you try to dump them in short bursts but they still build up and you end up pulling them out with your hand.
I really don't know they keep up with them in a parlor setting.
