Thumbs down Re: Pachinko wall mount/stand

cartert: The cabinet I bought from pachinkocabinets.net (a.k.a b840 on eBay) was complete garbage. It took about two months to get and it looked like it was severely rushed and done by a five year old. Maybe I just had a bad experience, because everybody else here sure seems to love their cabinets, but the problems with mine weren't minor in my opinion, they were glaring. The wood was not sanded, the paint was sloppy, bubbly, and had drip marks running down the side. I will need to sand down the whole thing and repaint it to look presentable. I thought, "Who would look at this and think it's acceptable? Where is the quality control. It's not like they didn't see it before they put it in the box." Any sane person could see that it looks like crap. In their defense I never did contact them about my complaints. What was I going to do? Box it up and wait another month? I figured that repainting it would be quicker than me buiIding one from scratch.

well one would think you would address these issues with the seller regardless. they cant fix something that they dont know is broke. besides by not mentioning it to them,i do think you forfeit your nagging rights...

Why? Some people simply don't like confrontation when the end result shows nothing to be gained.

    So True Brother..... thanks!

You know I have still yet to add my Elven Silver lined Ivy across the top and sides... that will be the final KILLER touch! I've been trying to find some stencils and no luck yet... I might have to just do it by hand but am afraid of making mistakes when it already looks so nice...

I had to do some tweaking on the top loader because you can easily have balls flying everywhere if you overload. The cabinet does not mount flush with the top loader on my pachinko so you don't know when it is full and balls go everywhere. It was fixed with a toilet paper roll and some wood to block in the balls. Now it works great. The bottom holder is HUGE!!! It holds easily over 3K balls!!! Take the advice given earlier and line it with some rubber as it quits it down greatly and still works great. I also had to design a ramp in the bottom to keep the balls from hitting the cabinet as they fall. I just used some cardboard with duct tape.
Overall I would give the cabinet high scores. It needs some tweaking but that is what makes it FUN! You get to do some mods of your own to make it just the way you want.
I have the same problem with the funnel and balls popping out when it is overfilled. Do you have pix of your tweeking? I would love to do that to my cabinet

I will try and get some good pics tommorrow. It was not too difficult. Just a toilet paper roll cut and some cut pieces of wood Super Glued to the inside of the cabinet.

Does anyone have plans for one? I dont want to spend $100 each for my 3 machines, I could buy a 4th machine for that price. But it is becoming a pain in the butt to keep reaching around for the balls. (sounds gay)

In this post, there are nice plans http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/show...hlight=cabinet

I used them to make four cabinets with a few tweaks. What I liked best about this design is that you can use the cabinet to hang or stand because the bottom is large enough to balance and support the machine on it's own. I'm eventually going to hang my machines, but currently have them standing. I increased the bottom dimensions slightly and also included a door opening so the balls can pour out once put on the wall. So it works well either on the wall or sitting on a cabinet.

Since I started out making four all at once, it saved some time making all the wood cuts first and then go into assembly. A table saw helped tremendously.

As a part time cabinet maker, I have the equipment to build top of the line cabinets, yet I have feet on my Pachi's. at least for now Cost = free from the scrap box, time > 5 minutes, chop chop screw, done. I might mount the pachi once the game room gets going.
It is possible to make a much better quality cabinet than mass produced, crudboard.
I will try to match the wood finish of the vintage pachi, to make it look like it was made by the factory in the 50's.

I dont know haow it is in the States but in the Uk we have a DIY/building store called B and Q. I bought a machine in a cabinet and then bought a second one without a cabinet. To buy a plane one costs Ł40 plus Postage so I thought I would see what it costs to build my own. At B and Q they will machine cut any timber you want so you can get machine precision edges. I literally measured the cabinet I had, took the plans to the store and walked out with a flat pack cabinet and some screws for Ł15, a saving of Ł25. It took 30 minutes to build it and as the machines have a wooden rim getting at all square was simple. Now I'm just waiting on picking a paint scheme to finish both my cabinets off. Its given me the motivation to build an 8 foot wide by two foot deep stand for all my machines (inc 2 pachislos) which I intend to start as soon as I leave here (work) AT 8.30am. We are having a party at the weekend so I want my newly converted games room (a new but unused conservatory) to look like a real arcade. The point is don't be scared to try building something, you can always find a professional to cut timber for you if you arn't to confident, the problem is once you start you won't know when to stop!!! To prevent ball noises I cut up disused mouse matts and shape and glue them the any flat surface that the balls will be hitting, no more noise.

Thumbs up Re: Pachinko wall mount/stand

I bought 2 of the wall mount cabinets with the leg kits and had them stain them for me. One was for a New Sea Story for my niece and the other one was for a Popeye for my nephew. They were both given as christmas presents and both i and my niece and nephew loved them. One thing that i would recommend is to buy a pack of finger wedges from Lowes or Home Depot...or cut your own. They really helped me get the pachinko centered as well as i wedged it up off the bottom until it snugged up at the top. This may be why i have never had any of the ball feeder problems that others have mentioned. I would also recommend that you add a few extra screws just to make sure the machine is secured. I was very happy with the end result and i really don't think i could have saved much money making them from scratch myself...especially with my wood working skills! I never would have been able to cut that top funnel out of wood plus i still got all my fingers too!

I added a ball return tray under my feet, it made the game 100% more enjoyable! It is just a wood box with a bottom that slopes to the front wit rubber pad and a hand hole in the front.
The next one will be shorter this does not need to be so tall.

If your not comfortable with cuting and fitting wood then go buy one.
If you feel creative go for it it is very rewarding making a useful piece yourself.

I couldn't find Arby's thread with his raised stand and the tray.

If he raised the base a little higher he could use a black plastic paint roller tray under the machine.

the balls would all roll to the front

After you have the tools and plans unless you use vintage hardwood it should`n cost to much to build the cabinets, natural wood finishes would be the most expensive but after you have bought paints and primers for one they should really do a fair few cabinets. If using a hardwearing gloss finish then cheep MDF wood costs peanuts and when painted looks a million dollars. In the UK I am going to look at starting to make several different styles of cabinet to supply to buyers as there does appear to be a bit of a gap In the market for them, Good quality goods at affordable prices. Could be a pipe dream but I`m hoping to get going on it in the new year.
