Question Customs -- changing the belly glass and more

What is the best way to apply the backlit film when doing a custom? I have the New Pulsar and the great artwork from Dapperdan. Do I get same size Plexi and glue it on? Or is it better to sandwich it between 2 smaller pieces that equals the thickness of the original? What materials do you use? (Lexan / Glass / Clear Glue? / Spray adhesive?). I want to do this right the first time!

I built a mame cabinet and used clear plastic (vinyl) injet labels. I printed my artwork in reverse and it turned out great. My buddy did my markee for me. He used vellum on a cad printer and sandwiched that between two slices of glass and we backlit it with a florescent. Lots of techniques. RKn did a great looney toons. I would PM him.

I normally just use one piece of plexi in front and then glue the edges or use adhesive. The natual static of the film makes it stick to the lexan, plus the lexan has its own static pull too. Once its in place and placed bak in the machine, its not going anywhere!

I see you tried to PM but my mailbox was full (anyway I can pay $20 to pachitalk so I can get a bigger mailbox?)

The bottom I sandwich between two pixes of Plexiglass. The top I use one piece of plexiglass and use these little transparent double sided sticky tabs that people use for scrapbooking (you can get them at the craft store). I thought it all the kits I sent out to people I included a bunch of these with it.

I'm glad you mentioned that, dapperdan.

I just went digging in the peanuts, and found mine!

    Oh well... next time.

I've got one done, and used the same method dapper said. Two on the bottom, sandwiched, and one on the top, taped on the edges. Looks great!

For the reels, I cut thin strips of "Light Traffic Carpet Tape", and spaced them around the cage. It was a pain to get off the old stickum.

    One down, one to go.

For the reels strips I use double sided tabs but they are re-positionable and not transparent. They become permanent after about 10 mins. This gives me a chance to redo the reels if I did not get it quite right the first time.

At the aquarium supply stores, they have an adhesive that is used to apply a tank background to a tank. It works really well. Has anyone tried that?

Also - how hard is it to remove the bell glass? I REALLY want to replace the belly glass on my speed racer. Someone took out the original and put in a terrible, pixely, Nascar theme belly glass. I want to redo it and make it nice again.
    Thanks!

when you look at the inside of the door you will see some plastic tabs lined up with the bellyglass frame, just move them a little and the whole bellyglass will come out from the front.

its so easy a caveman could do it

No! I'm not sure! but I'm SOOOO gonna look!

It doesn't look as easy as a few tabs...but I'll check it out again. I thought you had to remove a bunc of things like the coin ramp and such.

There a normally 2 tabs on the inside of the door. along the top edge of the belly glass frame on the front, look in that spot on the inside. normally about 1 to 2 inches from each corner on the top. press them down & out. But put something in front like a towel in case it pops out.
