    Default Daiichi New Vanguard NV100

I was gifted a Daiichi New Vanguard NV100 a couple of weeks ago, he said it was "rough". I was told it belonged to a family member who passed away, they found it while cleaning out his stuff. I offered to clean it up, try to get it working and give it back, but he said no, I could keep it, part it out or toss it out. Still planning on offering it back, I think it's the right thing to do. Definitely needs some TLC.

So, the machines got some significant rust on the front frame, some small cracks on the formica at the top of the playfield, rear upper ball tray is badly broken.

I fixed the shooter mechanism that advances the next ball to the shooter, little wire that activates it was about 180 degrees out. Jackpot "spoon" wouldn't work because the ball went past it, so after taking it apart and not seeing anything obvious, I moved the lower bracket about 1/8" over to allow the "spoon" to make full contact with the ball, fixed it! Jackpot had a ball jammed in it, so I disassembled it, cleaned it up a bit while I had it apart, seems to work now. Someone cut the wires going to the light for the jackpot, so I need to get a better look at that as well.

I've been searching e-Bay for an upper ball tray, but haven't found one yet, but I'm not giving up. I'm not sure if I can make one out of a rubbermaid container or if it's something that someone on here could create with a 3D printer.

Most of the material still exists....it's just displaced a little....
I assure you I can reconstruct what's there, create new material and fill in what's not there, and paint it up to look like new.

I believe I have one, different color, but I think it's the same.

Thanks for the offer, yes, looks just like mine, but I just mailed my broken one off to SibSr to see about getting it fixed.

All major repairs have been made....Cracks fixed, new material added and the upper edge restored.

The weather system over Florida until Saturday is bringing such high humidity that I am waiting to paint until Sunday when the exiting system takes the moisture in the air with it.

It will be almost Florida Fall-like Sunday morning with temps in the upper 50's and low humidity for a couple days...Good (and rare) painting weather.

I just got a new machine delivered today. Guess I'll be applying my skills on my own tray thanks to FedEx

Congrats on the new machine! Sorry to hear about the shipping damage. Can't wait to see more pictures of the rest of the machine.

Got most of the rear torn down, gave the plastics a good bath with Totally Awesome and a toothbrush, much better looking now, they were pretty dirty.

I think I'm going with a general cleanup on this machine and not go too crazy on trying to whiten the yellowed plastics or wet sand the colored pieces, just some Novus or Trim Restorer perhaps. The front is pretty rough with rusted frame and a few small cracks on the formica playfield, so it's never going to be "pristine". I don't want to have the back looking better than I expect to be able to get the front to look. Probably going to use steel wool on the rear metal parts to get some of the rust off to ensure the balls flow freely, might just soak the rear brass pieces in vinegar instead of using Brasso on them. Still undecided on trying the polish all the front brass nails in place, it's a lot of work, but really makes it pop.

I still plan on offering it back to the guy who gave it to me because it was his late brothers, I think his family should have it.

So what would you folks do if this was yours? How far would you go with the cleaning?

Sand the back some, no bleaching or polishing except for nails....just nice and cleaned.

I got your tray primed yesterday. I've been looking at paint color. The original color is in between the two colors I've found so far. I was thinking of going with the darker spring green instead of the lighter lime green.

Thanks SibSr, that came out really nice, much better than anything I'd have been able to do. Darker green would be my choice as well.

Please PM me with what I owe you for this and shipping etc.

Wow! It's a shame we all have to gamble with every carrier out there on being proficient. Poor packing from the sellers doesn't help either. I have a couple of extra trays that are damaged,(not bad, just a chunk missing etc) I know you like a challenge but wow. Send me a full picture etc if you're not in the mood to rebuild a fault line.

Removed most of the parts from the front & playfield today, had a few stripped screws, so I left the ball tray attached. Most of the nails on the lower front trims as well as the upper right and left corners were very rusty and aren't moving when I tried to loosen them with various tools, so they got a light bath in place.

Lightly sanded the rear board with some 320 grit, as well as the wooden frame, no plans to polyurethane, just getting some rough spots off.

Next up is going to be the front frame, I may wind up rattle can chrome painting it, depends how it looks after I try to clean it with a soft wire brush and Dremel.
