Default James Lanthripe's R2D2 Pachinko Cab featured in GameRoom Mag

    Hello all.
I haven't posted in a while, but I've been lurking!

For those of you who don't know me, I am one of the writers for GameRoom Magazine (GameRoom Magazine - Home Gaming News and Reviews). I've written articles for the mag on Pachislo and Pachinko in the past, but I had recently noticed James' wonderful R2D2 pachinko cab for Star Wars here in pachitalk.

I had just purchased a SW's of my own, but unfortunately couldn't swing the cost for one of his custom cabinets when I reached out to him. Any way, we chatted for a bit via email, and I ended up writing an article about the custom work that he's done.

The article will be in the Nov edition, and Kevin, the publisher, is also going to be running an article on James' Basement "Pub" arcade to be featured as Game Room of the month.

I just thought that you guys would get a kick out of the article and wanted to let you know to look out for it if you're a subscriber.

    Have a great day!

    Great stuff!

When are you writing more for Game room on pachinko?

How about covering the early Vintage years, the latest Modern years, and the moderns which are freely available in America right now?

We can help with plenty of background!!!

Oh - and how would you like to interview the only guy who has written (to my knowledge) an English language book on the subject, published in Japan??

I would contact James regarding pricing-- but I think (please don't quote me) that he indicated they start at about $800 to $1K for the cabinet only.

Re "more on Pachinko", that issue coming out does a deep dive into Pachinko. Basically the whole issue is an homage to Pachinko.

I'd love to get hold of that copy of GameRoom mag, and indeed other issues, but cost to ship here, can't remember exactly what it was now, but it was a lot last time I enquired

are there any plans to find stockists in the UK??

I'm sure a lot of people over here would be interested

Hey folks, Kevin with GameRoom Magazine here -- I'm a long-time lurker, but haven't been around here for quite a while. (I own two pachislos and a vintage Nishijin pachinko)

Mitch mentioned this thread - thought I'd add some more details.

The November issue of GameRoom features an interview with James Lanthripe and his R2-D2 pachinko cabinet, as well as a history of Pachinko by Eddie Cramer, from bagatelle to modern times. We also have an article about modding a vintage pachinko for LED lighting.

The issue will go on sale on our web site on November 1st for $5.95 (plus shipping). Unfortunately, I don't have any UK distributors of the magazine, but I'll see if I can't set up a discount code for PachiTalk forum members.

I'm trying very hard to cover all the "home gaming" bases with GameRoom, and that includes coverage of pachinko and pachislo. I'm looking for reader-submitted reviews, and any leads on good interviews or articles are always appreciated. And of course, if you've got a great game room, I'm always eager to see a "GameRoom of the Month" submission.

Feel free to email me - kevin@gameroommag.com

Proud owner of said R2D2 cabinet! I met James at Star Wars Celebration IV, saw the R2D2 pachinko and cabinet, and the rest is history. Looking forward to the article...

Since I live right down the street, I don't have much of an excuse not to do it. I've still got two Star Wars machines and four Indy pachinkos. I am definately making the Coal Car cabinets for the Indy machines so I should have three to sell (I am keeping one). I may make two R2D2 cabinets as well.

Back issues are still available on their website. I just ordered one. With the cheapest shipping option the price is $9.19 but I figure it's worth it. Here's the link to the back issue order page:
